Janis Dreosti, BACP
About me
I am qualified counsellor in the UK, I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, motivation, self esteem, confidence and depression.
My approach is interactive and relaxed. I want you as my client to feel relaxed within our sessions, this helps us to focus on you and what you want from therapy and how we can work together.
In counselling young people and students, I am familiar with some of the anxieties stresses that can seem overwhelming.
To gain an understanding of why you are experiencing anxiety, OCD, lack of self belief/confidence, anger, a sense of feeling overwhelmed and why you may be feeling this way. along with techniques to manage can make such a difference.
Experienced in dealing with trauma/anxiety/stress and depression. How this affects our ability to function, making it difficult to control emotions and thoughts. What would be like to know and understand that what you are experiencing is normal?
Feeling disconnected or overwhelmed; feeling low or numb; just not being able function or feeling like you can't switch off. Using psycho-education to give an understanding of why, to then work on the underlying issues.
Personalising therapy to the individual by integrating various therapeutic skills and tools, along with tools that are effective for stress, depression and feelings of being overwhelmed.
With trauma I will not ask you about the past or the event, we will focus on what it has left you with. Going at your pace, as you are the expert on yourself. Using tools and techniques, together we work on how this is impacting you now.
In addition to private practice I have worked for over five years for a local charity, supporting and counselling individuals for domestic violence, sexual abuse, PTSD and depression.
Our first session would be finding out more about you, how the current issues are affecting you and what impact this is having on your well-being. To explore what you want to gain from counselling and where to start.
Together we can process where you are now, working on where you want to be.
