Elizabeth McAdam, LMHC
About me
Everyone deserves a therapist who they can connect with and trust. Beginning therapy, returning to therapy, or advocating for changes in treatment takes a lot of courage. I am proud of you for getting started and excited for the opportunity to join you on this journey!
If you’re interested in knowing a bit about me: I am a happily married, self-proclaimed nerd. I believe in the power of play and so I enjoy gaming (video, tabletop, and otherwise). I enjoy reading, writing, coloring, and embroidery. Some of my favorite things include: Music, fresh baked bread, autumn breezes, and the color emerald green. I am a life-long learner with so many more things to discover!
If you are interested in knowing a bit about my credentials: I am licensed in Indiana (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) with 3 years of professional work experience. I have worked in college counseling centers, and am currently working in a community mental health clinic along with my caseload with BetterHelp. I have experience working with clients across a variety of ages (from 5 years old to 90) and with a wide range of troubles, including trauma and abuse, grief and loss, depression, self-love, self-esteem, and anxiety.
Because we are beautifully complicated individuals, I utilize several evidence-based approaches to tailor treatment to you and your needs. I often pull tools from sources like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Motivational Interviewing. My framework (theoretical orientation) is Existential Psychotherapy, which focuses on making meaning out of the suffering we experience, learning how to become our truest selves, and finding purpose in life.
Now you know a little bit about me, but therapy isn’t about me. It is about you, and I am eager to know a little bit about you.
