Josey Hull, LPC
About me
Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) serving individuals living in Virginia. I am a graduate of Lynchburg College where I received my Master of Education in Counseling. I have had the honor of seeing the importance of mental health services while working with persons of all ages during the past 19 years in both home-based & outpatient settings. I have also experienced the value in pursuing professional help at various times in my own personal journey.
My approach to counseling is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) including an assortment of different techniques and components such as: cognitive restructuring; problem-solving training; journaling; and relaxation training. Small, intentional habits can form the groundwork of valuable mental beliefs.
I find it is helpful & important to add mindfulness approaches into CBT early. Consider that regardless of whether someone is experiencing depression, anxiety, grief &/or pain, etc. the underlying result is, most often, an individual having a fear of fully experiencing the aversive emotion/physical sensation with an extreme desire to escape from it. Learning to accept, improve and tolerate distress often requires help from someone who is warm, open, caring & empowering. My experience has prepared me to be such a therapist & I want to help you acquire skills to accept your unwanted emotions, as well as, how to improve your emotional experience.
I am grateful you are here today!

Josey is very caring and a balance of listener while also providing feedback and insight throughout our sessions. I have complete confidence in her and she has been and currently still is a tremendous help. She's great and a perfect match for me as a therapist.

Dr. Hull has created a truly welcoming environment for me to explore not just the feelings I've been experiencing but really digging down to their causes with an incredible supporting body of resources to help in that. I feel that I can be comfortable sharing my own thoughts or theories with her too.

It was an amazing experience to work with Josey Hull. She took extensive time to listen to me and allowed me to adequately express my concerns and goals. She identified how my thought processing impacted how I felt and what influence it had on my behavior. She was able to provide me with good strategies to bring about positive change. I could count on her to be prompt and she frequently followed up our sessions with additional materials and "check-ins". I feel that I received great benefit from the therapy.
