Richard Evans, NCPS
About me
My approach is what is called, pluralistic, which means that I use a mix of person centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive behaviour therapies. This is dependent on what makes sense to you the client, and the issue you want to explore. The actual therapy sessions will be led by you, so you set the goal , and you agree any tasks that will help you get closer to that goal. I know the psychological landscape and I'll be helping you explore the issues, gain insight, and achieve healing, or whatever that goal is.
Besides your goals, I will have two of my own. One is to provide you with the safe, confidential space, where you feel accepted and free to talk about whatever brought you to counselling. The second, is what is for me is the true goal of counselling, to help you get to the place where you don't need the counselling any more.
Professionally, I have a particular interest in PTSD, having lived with it for a number of years in my previous career. I also enjoy helping people to heal from the effects of narcissistic abuse in their life and have completed additionally training in this area. My own life experience includes a 30 year career in the police, which has left me with a strong desire to help members of the emergency services, as well as service personnel, be they serving or retired. I have a deep respect for those who choose to serve.
I would highly recommend counselling, be it with me, or someone else. Having a space that is yours, where you are the important person, where you get to talk your stuff out, is just wonderful. You don't get that anywhere else in life. Wish I tried it earlier myself
