Shellby Aguilar, LPC
About me
I am a clinical mental health therapist, licensed in Arizona for the past 3 years. I have worked in the field of mental health much longer including some time working with inmates at a private prison, working for a domestic violence shelter for women and working at a runaway shelter for female teens. I am in my early 30's, i have tattoos and piercings, I believe in being true to yourself. I have worked with clients with a wide range of challenges including trauma, anxiety, depression, identity concerns and self esteem issues. I am trained in EMDR and play therapy. I have ran a teen book club counseling group in my main site for almost 4 years. I have spent a majority of my time working with teens and young adults.
My therapy style is genuine and relaxed. I am not big on labels and have learned that every individual has different needs that are not only unique to them, but constantly evolving. My therapeutic approach is mostly humanistic with various CBT techniques, ACT and Solution-focused.
I look forward to working with you.

Shelby is truly a life saver. I have ALWAYS hated therapy/counseling for myself. I've hated people telling me how to live my life and what I should or shouldn't be doing. Rather than helping me with what is truly needed with the life that I'm actively living. But with Shelby it's different. I feel like there was an instant connection. I have never felt so heard in my life. Prior to being matched with Shelby I was contemplating suicide multiple times a week. I never had a written out plan, and I haven't attempted for many years. But the thought was a constant lingering thought. Since starting sessions with Shelby though, I can feel my mental health changing for the better already. I'm still not 100% but I dont feel like I'm barely hanging on anymore. I've been able to take a step back on to the cliff instead of hanging off the edge. I'm sure therapist hear this a lot, but Shelby quite literally saved my life. I was ready to give up, I truly was. But having her to talk to changed everything. Thank you Shelby, for everything and for always being just a message away!

Shellby makes me feel seen like she knows me. She is unbiased and tells me exactly what I need to hear in terms that helps me understand. I appreciate her honestly and words of affirmations which helps me feel like I’m not alone and I can be cured. It may take work, but in time with her help and guidance I will heal from my trauma so I no longer keep creating inevitable negative cycles and finally take back control of my own life with confidence, self love, and self worth.
