Suzanne Matson, LPC
About me
ABOUT ME. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado with 17+ years of experience, I bring a diverse background of experience to my work. I began my career as a Securities Broker and Financial Planner at The Charles Schwab Corporation. While there, I became interested in Human Resources and Counseling Psychology. I earned a master’s degree with honors in Human Resources Development from Villanova University and a master’s degree with honors in Counseling Psychology and Pastoral Care from Denver Seminary (2003). A life-long learner, my belief is that our ultimate purpose is to grow in our knowledge of self and others and the world around us. When this happens our life and relationships reflect that growth in the form of resilience, strength, empowerment, and positive connections inside and out.
COUNSELING METHODS AND ORIENTATION. I am dedicated to the use of client-centered, evidence-based models of counseling. My goal is to create a trusting and non-judgmental relationship through empathy, insight, curiosity, and creativity! We will identify – together - the areas of growth and understanding that will allow you to accomplish your goals and bring about desired change.
Growth and change are challenging –at times painful – and exciting. I believe growth occurs in the collaborative processes of relationships. Relationships are a balance of both art and science and the active expression of our “knowing, being and doing” in the world. If one of these areas is out of balance, we are out of balance resulting in stress, anxiety, depression, and other personal or relational difficulties.
Most often, I use Psychoeducational Therapy and Counseling Assessments combined with personalized assignments. I employ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Developmental and Attachment Theory, Family Systems, Emotion-Focused Theories, and Personality Theory in relation to each client’s needs and goals.
EXPERIENCE. I bring a broad experience counseling with adolescents, adults, and couples in areas of personal, relationship and child development. As a Professional in Human Resources with a work history in Personal Finance I have specialized knowledge with all issues related to work, career, and finances. I specialize in chronic illness, sleep issues, mood disorders, educational advocacy for children with disabilities, self-esteem, and all issues related to a person’s identity including LGBTQ+. I also specialize in adoption and adoptive family concerns and reunions with birth families.
My calling and deepest passion are working with clients to develop personal strategies during life’s transitions, challenges, and changes providing clients a sense of belonging, understanding, and feeling known and genuinely accepted. I provide Faith-based services, upon request of any client. My professional ethics are mindful and respectful of the client’s faith traditions and background, first and foremost, with the understanding that a faith-based counselor remains non-judgmental while engaging meaningful conversations when scripture, faith, beliefs, and our imperfect nature result in conflict.
Thank you for trusting me to share this process with you, I look forward to working with you and sharing in your present journey!

Suzanne is a wonderful therapist! She’s gentle and compassionate, while also being frank. She incorporates her own experience and a boat load of resources to make therapy a place to be yourself and build your emotional toolkit. I’ve already recommended her and BetterHelp to my friends and family!

Suzanne really helped me. I didn't feel alone after speaking with her. She respected my desire to not do video calls and supported me. The resources she provided me set me on an amazing path. I am thankful for her and for her gentleness.

Suzanne has been a GODSEND to me!!! (Literally I pray thanking God for sending her to me!) As someone who has first-hand experience with my chronic illness, she has provided comfort, compassion, helpful techniques and even personal recommendations. She is incredibly knowledgeable and I learned more from her about my illness than from my several specialists! I wouldn’t be where I am in my journey without her and I am eternally grateful!!!

Suzanne is a phenomenal LPC! She is incredibly kind, warm, and empathetic. Suzanne truly takes the time to hear about all of your struggles and then she provides positive and constructive feedback on how best to handle them. She creates a safe space from the moment the session begins and I leave each session with a better perspective and plan on how to be my best self. I would highly, highly recommend Suzanne as an LPC!

Suzanne has been wonderful since the very first session. She always leaves me with some thing to work on until our next session. She has given me so many tools to add to my collection. I have learned so much about myself since starting to work with her. She is kind and so helpful! I highly highly recommend her.
