I am Tom Pittman. I have doing this work in form or another for more than 10 years. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief, career challenges, substance use disorder as well as other mental health issues . I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, dialectical behavioral, 12 step as well as spiritual principles. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I believe in a person centered approach and do not think "one size fits all."
It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

Tom Pittman is so easy to speak with and funny too. My partner and I have been struggling with communication and we are at the end of considering staying together and after our first session with Tom I felt like there was hope because he gave us some strategies to practice on our own that included mindfulness and also repeating back what we hear from one another instead of reacting. I look forward to the second session. Tom is transparent and candid and I really appreciated that. And he did his best to work around our late schedule which normally was not his schedule. Which made it possible to attend these video sessions.

I've met with Mr. Pittman a few times now and I really appreciate his no-nonsense approach. I've seen a lot of therapists and counselors over the years and many of them are well-meaning and will validate how we feel, but provide little else - or worse, accidentally disempower us by saying that it's the nature of the diagnosis we carry. Mr. Pittman combines both things. He can be validating because we feel how we feel, but also empowering since he believes that we can all be better than our yesterday selves, despite any health condition, set of circumstances we face, or our mindsets at any given time. Ultimately, I recommend Mr. Pittman to anyone who feels like they can't author their lives anymore and are ready to hear the hard stuff. It's our job to fix the problem, no matter how impossible that may seem.

I have only met with Tom twice and both times have helped tremendously. I have used/thought about his advice and words many times outside of our sessions in my normal everyday activities. I am confident I will continue meeting with him for many sessions to come.
