About me
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." Hello! I'm so happy that you are here. Taking the first step and asking for help is often one of the hardest things to do and I applaud your bravery!
My name is Abby and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor working in the state of Connecticut. I've worked as a counselor since 2008 and am currently employed in the field of Medication Assisted Treatment for Substance Use/Addiction. I also work at a private practice and see clients with a variety of needs including Depression, Anxiety, and PTSD amongst others. In addition, I am very knowledgeable in the areas of Elderly/Aging Issues, and Cancer. I spent 7 years working in group homes with young men and women who have advanced mental health and behavioral issues and have also worked with Department of Corrections meeting with clients in Half Way Housing and on Parole/Probation.
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is vitally important to success in treatment. My treatment style is warm and understanding but also straight forward. I utilize a variety of skills and therapy styles to create the kind of treatment that works best for you and your individual needs. I often use a number of different treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness, Person-Centered and Motivational Interviewing. I provide a supportive environment and a safe place to really be your authentic self. I am not here to judge. I am open minded, ready to listen, and most importantly, I am here to help. Whether you are here for a mental health issue, a life change, are struggling with a relationship problem, or if you just need someone that you can talk/vent to, I've got you! I appreciate you taking the time to consider allowing me to join you on your journey to healing and happiness and I look forward to meeting with you.

Abigail Thurlow is an awesome therapist! She was on time to the appointment 99% but on the super rare chance she was running late or needed to do a schedule change she let me know way in advance. I felt talking to her really improved me and her methods work great. I did text sessions but the conversation was also filled with personality. Abigail also puts a lot of care into her work from the way she help me with my bad days and the ways she introduced coping mechanisms so they weren't so bad! So if you get match up with Abigail or you are thinking about switching to her, you are in good hands!
