Dr. Alwyn (AL) Whitehead, Psychologist
About me
My 20 years as a clinical psychologist working with adult men and women have taught me a lot. First, that we all carry a burden. Second, our burdens are lighter when we share them with others. And finally, we can be set free from our burdens, or, regardless of them, live happily. I enjoy working with clients wanting to overcome depression, anxiety, alcohol and/or drug addictions, posttraumatic stress disorder, stress, panic disorders, or relationship challenges.
My clients say that I am easy to talk to and give them a sense that “there is a way out.” Most clients leave the first session feeling greatly relieved that they have been understood. And, have the beginnings of a mutually agreeable plan of action that will give them relief. I have great respect for my clients. They have courageously come forward in spite of their burdens and made the first step toward getting the help and relief they desire.
My therapeutic techniques are based on the American Psychological Association’s “Professional Practice Guidelines”. These criteria are designed to assist in the use of the best methods for addressing mental health issues.
Let’s walk this road together.

Dr. Whitehead has helped me a lot to keep me on track as I finished my degree, transitioned to full-time work, and becoming a father.

Al is very understanding and uses various types of tools to enable some change. He is very efficient at mirroring and that creates a more comfortable environment to share your deepest concerns/problems. I’m continuing my therapy with him, and certain I will grow from this experience.

Dr Whitehead has helped me immensely. He listens and really understands what my issues are without any type of judgement. I feel that I can speak freely without any hesitation and he will listen, respond, offer ideas on how to deal with life’s many events whether current or past. He has given me tools to use to resolve past childhood issues which actually worked. I feel very confident in his care. I recommend him highly.

Al is an incredibly compassionate, patient, open, wholesome and caring person, who I can honestly say has been of great help and assistance to me.
In my own personal journey, he has been able to challenge my thought patterns without judgment, and instead offering tools and ideas that I have tried to bring to my daily life.
He is great to talk to, and during our video meetings he allowed me space to talk, but was also communicative and asked interesting questions that helped me process my own thoughts. He seems like someone who is open to all people and tries to see things from their point of view.
I really appreciate his assistance during the last few weeks. I do genuinely feel it's made me a more thoughtful and whole person.
