About me
Do you want to overcome the obstacles preventing you from being your best self? My name is Alfred Renard Carter and I'm a Licensed Psychotherapist. My clinical experience and specializations are Depression, Anxiety, Stress management and relationship dynamics (couple/marriage/family). I take a strength-based approach to empower you to overcome the psychological and emotional distress you're experiencing. I'm eclectic from a theoretical standpoint. However, I lean towards Cognitive Behavioral and Humanistic Existential theories as a base treatment modality. I believe in allowing your needs intrapsychic needs to determine the theoretical approach and interventions most suitable for your treatment. While my education and professional experiences provide me the competence to provide effective treatment, I don't profess to be an expert on you. You're the expert on your life journey. Mr. Carter has been such a wonderful therapist who has helped me along my journey of self discovery over the past few years. He has helped me to recognize coping mechanisms I implemented as a child and understand feelings I’ve been trying to protect and how those habits don’t actually serve me anymore. He has listened and gently guided me to see the root cause of so many issues and has encouraged and supported me as I face the past trauma so I can move forward and grow. He has helped me realize that childhood trauma is not just physical or sexual and that emotional trauma and abandonment have just as much of an impact. He gave my trauma a name and it was shocking to hear the term of abandonment when, I had both of my parents present in my life. I can now see that physical presence isn’t the same as emocional security. I cannot thank him enough for all the progress I have made and I look forward to his continued support.

Mr. Carter is professional, attentive, open , and respectful. He takes the time to listen and doesn’t impose his views or thought he allowed me to find my way and kept me from veering off my set path.. Truly a light,

My favourite thing about Alfred is his tendency to counsel in a way that is less him telling you how to fix the problem and more him encouraging you to listen to your gut, find the root cause for the issues and become more comfortable depending on yourself. He offers insightful guidance and is attentive and thoughtful, but he really encourages you to develop your own insights.

I have signed up for my second round of sessions with Alfred after my first round went well. Alfred was understanding, supportive and effective in our time working together. I trust in him and his ability to help me manage my mental health which is invaluable. It’s great to have the confidence in this second round of sessions with Alfred. I know I will be in a better place once they’re completed with Alfreds help and guidance.

When I first was looking around at where I could do online counselling I came across BetterHelp. I did a short serve that allowed them to connect me with somebody most qualified for my specific needs. Alfred has been full of insight and questions that helped me begin to process my own emotions on my own two feet. I’m grateful for all he has allowed me to share and all the progress he has granted me. I am now in a better position to push through the obstacles of life with full force.
