About me

I am doctoral student currently pursuing a Ph.D in Counseling and Counselor Education program at Syracuse University. I serve as a Graduate Assistant for the fullCIRCLE Mentoring Program and is the President of Counselors for Social Justice. I am originally from North Carolina where I completed his BA in Mass Communications at Winston-Salem State University and MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Ed.S. in Couples and Family Counseling form the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Upon graduating from UNC-G, I began serving at Family Services of the Piedmont where he provided individual and group counseling addressing the mental health and substance issues for clients of marginalized identities. I am a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of NC with several years of counseling experience in community based, crisis assessment and intervention settings. I have counseling experience with adults, adolescents, couples, families, and groups. A great deal of my counseling experience has centered on adolescents and adults battling with mental health and substance abuse issues. I have recently provided these services to undergraduate and graduate college students at the Syracuse University's counseling center.

My orientation to counseling is based on a CBT framework of counseling and is informed by psychological assessment and treatment. I also use an intersectional feminist framework to help clients understand how various social constructs impact the intersections of their identities. I believe that the primary process of counseling involves helping clients gain insight to their presenting challenges in order to create sustainable changes.. As a burgeoning counselor educator, I aspire to engage students and clients through approaches that affirm less privileged identities. As a Black feminist, my research explores the intersections of class, race/ethnicity, gender, spirituality, sexual orientation and social justice.
