About me

I am a professional counselor licensed in the State of Oklahoma with 10 years of experience working as a psychotherapist, in outpatient settings; such as in office, homes, and schools. I view counseling as much more than a vocation-- but as a purpose and calling; and I also thoroughly enjoy the variety and challenge that navigating through Clients' situations can bring.

I have treated (and continue to work with) Clients of a wide--range of demographics; with a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety/panic, self-esteem, relationship communication and intimacy issues, parenting problems, and career challenges. I have worked with many people who have struggled with issues in divorce, as well as emotional and/or narcissistic abuse. I have had experience in working in a domestic violence offenders’ group counseling setting, as well.

My counseling style is warm, accepting, and intuitive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, empathy, and compassion, as I work to emphasize my clients’ strengths and abilities. My approach combines a Person-Centered/ Motivational Interviewing; cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, existential, family systems, as applicable. I will tailor our sessions to your needs; as we can also work together to form a treatment plan to meet your unique and specific goals.
I further subscribe to the belief in the role of the therapist which is to 'draw out', or to motivate, to support, to encourage; to provide knowledge of psychotherapeutic tools, thought constructs, as well as ideas and resources, to augment a client's mental/ behavioral health/ relationship communication.

In beginning your process of change, empowerment, and self-love discovery today; I invite you; my future valued client--to walk alongside you; on any stage of your journey.

Looking Onward and Upward,

Angela Alderman-Shotton, LPC

“The paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.”

Angela listens carefully and recommends resources to help me in my struggle. I appreciate her respect for a “Christian worldview” and I look forward to becoming healthy and strong in my Christian faith.

Angela has been instrumental in supporting me as I've taken a more concerted and intentional look at my well-being overall. Her active listening skills, attentiveness, and constructive insights have made it possible for me to finally engage and sustain therapy, which at once had been an utterly daunting prospect, fraught with doubt and discomfort. I would recommend anyone to meet with and engage her, in order to get started on their own path toward a better self!

Angela has been my therapist for a little over 4 months now and I can safely say that I highly recommend her! She is incredibly kind, understanding, and patient, she has been absolutely helpful to me and through her effort I actually feel like things in my life are starting to get better. I was hesitant to even try therapy at first and doubted I would see it through, but her friendly and supportive nature wiped away that trepidation. I'm so grateful to betterhelp for setting me up as one of her clients!
