About me

I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed addiction specialist in North Carolina with more than 25 years of counseling experience. I have worked in a variety of settings including medication assisted treatment centers, hospital psychiatric units, counseling centers, and private practices. I am currently a behavioral health specialist working with clients in a collaborative effort to provide counseling and assist in helping clients achieve relief from stresses associated with range of concerns such as substance abuse, anxiety, depression, adjustment to life’s issues and trauma. I encourage clients to improve their quality of life through the exploration and development of helpful life skills.

My counseling style is warm, supportive and nonjudgmental. I view therapy as a collaborative effort between the therapist and client. I believe in treating people with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. I am a client centered, strengths based, trauma informed counselor who works with individuals toward getting stronger, accepting responsibility to move forward, and psychological healing. I am trained in CBT, DBT, harm reduction and motivational interviewing. I work with clients to identify treatment issues, develop treatment plans, and create a strong follow through in the counseling process. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

It takes courage to seek help to reach for a more fulfilling and happier life. Take the first steps towards a change can be daunting. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support, encourage, and empower you in your process.
I look forward to working with you!

Ann-Marie is the best therapist I’ve ever had. It’s hard to explain that sufficiently. I’m more healed than I ever thought I could be - and we’re still going strong!

Ann-Marie is one of those rare gems who combines decades of expertise and continuous learning with good humor, deep wisdom, and heartfelt compassion. She balances perfectly between no-nonsense reality and boundless mercy. Her spiritual maturity and integration make her an invaluable resource in my journey to wholeness. Very patient with my weird schedule, and caring.

Ann-Marie always shares her experience in ways that make it relatable even when it seems like you can find similarities between vastly different fields. She listens, and is honest, she's offered a lot of helpful suggestions for different challenges I've been dealing with, and in the time we've been working together I feel like I've had a better grasp on things. She's kind, and super supportive as well!
