Hello! My name is Betty Laird and I am a licensed clinical social worker in Indiana with over 35 years of experience. I attended Loyola University in Chicago. I believe that we are all amazing, complicated and resilient beings as well as vulnerable to stress and loss. At times we all need a safe place to give voice to our pain, explore our perceptions of ourselves and others and have a companion on our journeys toward healing. My approach is to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment in which the therapeutic relationship is the vehicle of change. I have experience with grief and loss issues, fertility and adoption challenges, compassion fatigue, trauma and PTSD, anxiety and depression, mood and personality disorders. I also use cinematherapy ( use of film to explore personality , coping and conflict resolution) .
Additional areas of focus:LGBT, Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Intimacy-related issues, Eating disorders, Sleeping disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, ADHD, Abandonment, Adoption and foster care, Aging and geriatric issues, Attachment issues, Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Avoidant personality, Blended family issues, Body image, Cancer, Caregiver issues and stress, Chronic pain, illness, and disability, Co-morbidity, Codependency, Commitment issues, Communication problems, Control issues, Coping with natural or human-caused disaster, Dependent personality, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD), Dissociation, Divorce and separation, Domestic violence, Eating and food-related issues, Emptiness, Family of origin issues, Family problems, Fertility issues, First responder issues, Forgiveness, Gender dysphoria, Guilt and shame, Hospice and end-of-life counseling, Impulsivity, Infidelity, Isolation / loneliness, Jealousy, Life purpose, Midlife crisis, Mood disorders, Narcissism, Obsessions, compulsions, and OCD, Panic disorder and panic attacks, Paranoia, Personality disorders, Phobias, Polyamory / non-monogamous relationships, Postpartum depression, Post-traumatic stress, Pregnancy and childbirth, Prejudice and discrimination, Process addiction (porn, exercise, gambling), Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Self-harm, Self-love, Sexual assault and abuse, Social anxiety and phobia, Somatization, Trichotillomania, Visually impaired, Women's issues, Workplace issues, Young adult issues

Betty is a wonderful therapist. She knows when to dive deeper into a specific topic and when to hold back. She is kind and super aware of how you are feeling and never pressured me into further discussion. I love that she wasn't holding back on asking me questions that would help me get through the tough times. She is caring and wants you to actually get better. This was my first experience in therapy and she just made it extra special
