About me

Hello. My name is Dr. William (Bill) Walker and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Alabama. I have formerly been licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist in Alabama and Texas.

I have 25 years’ experience providing counseling services to clients in a variety of settings, including community mental health centers, university health clinics, hospitals, and private practice. I also have 20 years of experience as a university professor preparing others to become mental health counselors themselves. I currently serve on the faculty in the Department of Mental Health & Wellness at Grand Canyon University.

I received my doctoral degree in Counselor Education from Texas A&M University (Commerce). I have two Masters degrees: one in Mental Health Counseling and one in Religious Studies.

My post-doctoral training took place at the University of Alabama, Birmingham School of Medicine/Hospital in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurobiology.

My specializations are in the treatment of anxiety and depression, but my wide-ranging experience makes me confident in dealing effectively with numerous mental health issues.

In therapy, my approach is to be respectful, down-to-earth, and very practical. All that matters is you getting better, with ‘better’ being defined by you. My job is to offer a safe, secure environment and use my experience and expertise to help you successfully resolve your problem and become the person you desire to be.

My personality leads me to be loyal and dependable as your counselor and to work hard for you. I promise to offer my best in working alongside you as you make the changes in your life you want to make.

I started speaking to Dr. Walker at a very low period in my life. I had tried other therapists before, and none seemed to be the right fit. Now I can hardly believe how much has changed for me and the personal growth I feel from these sessions. Speaking to Dr. Walker has been life-changing, and I do not say that lightly. I felt very comfortable talking to him, and he knew how to address the problems I was having. He helped me work through and better understand the realizations that came up through these sessions. I was very averse to therapy for most of my life, but after everything with Dr. Walker, I would suggest it and him to anyone going through a tough time. My life and my psyche are better for knowing Dr. Walker.

Dr. Walker has been a gift to my life. He is a great counselor, and I he is filled with insight on thoughts that trouble your mind. He is comprehensive, compassionate, and caring. He creates a safe environment for you to be yourself, and pushes to connect with you in a graceful way, yet he does it all so professionally. He is really good at listening, and giving you things to do throughout your week, so that you can put them to practice. He provides insightful articles, and he is truly fun. I highly, highly recommend Dr. Bill.
