How can I get prescribed antidepressants?

I had to stop therapy for financial reasons, now I am back to feeling like I am at rock bottom and I would like the pain to stop. I don't know if I will be able to sit through therapy sessions again, but I need a healthier way to feel better.

Good Evening Dess,

I am very sorry to hear you have experienced a relapse in depressive symptoms since your last round of mental health treatment. Unfortunately, as you are well aware, there are no easy fixes in this journey to wellness. It would be a good idea if you could take some time to think to yourself “what was it about therapy that created the feeling that “I don’t k now if I will be able to sit through therapy sessions again…”

It would also be helpful for you to decide if it was a format issue, that you did not enjoy live chat or live video, or live phone sessions, and you actually need an in-person one-to-one session in an office with a licensed mental health professional. You did not mention it, but have you tried the following to address your “rock bottom”:

1)    Consult your primary care physician (you can use your insurance provider to assist in the cost of a visit to his or her office) about your depression / anxiety.

2)    Build a coping tool kit which holds all the things that make you feel the most calm and hopeful you can be – include items like favorite books, favorite songs / music, art, snacks, etc.

3)    Take up a free online support group, where you can be treated alongside others who suffer from the same ailment as you.

4)    Join a free workshop which offers books and resources that you can use to help guide you on how to identify activating factors for your depressive episode, contemplate barriers to you addressing them, and overcome those same barriers.

5)    Concentrate on your physical health and mental health in combination. Start to examine your diet and the amount of effort and time you put into treating your body well. Are you at all physically active, are you exercising daily, taking walks, getting sunshine, drinking enough water? What is your regime of self-care?

6)    Explore or build a network of support so you will not feel so alone in your conquest to address your depression.

I hope the items above are helpful to you. I wish you all the best in your efforts to be and stay well. Please take good care of yourself and follow-up with us here on the BetterHelp forum with further questions, should you have them!
