How can I know that, as a very self aware, grounded, educated human, therapy can serve me?

I don't trust that therapy is an avenue for me. I am very self aware and really don't know what therapy has to offer me other than a place to unpack all the things on my mind - a space for decompression really. I'm not really in need of the'help' most people seeking therapy are in need of. Is therapy that space?

Hi! Thank you for such a valid question!

I think it's easy to assume that therapy might not be right for you if you're a fairly self-aware person, but I think it can really be quite the opposite. You having that self-awareness can really help lead the therapy process into a much different avenue than say, someone who maybe isn't as self-aware.

A lot of therapy work is more than just "unpacking," and a lot of work happens outside of the therapy room. Many therapists have different ways of doing the work, however personally, I take a much more hands-on approach. I find value in being able to support clients both inside and outside the therapy room and my goal is to help you get through all of the things that led you to therapy. By that, I mean, we will do much more than just unpack what led you here, and instead, we'll do that, but will also work through tools and skills that you can apply to deal with those things. My work focuses extensively around person-centered theories, cognitive behavioral therapies, dialectical behavioral therapies, as well as solution focused and motivational type therapies. The goal here, is that you leave each session with tools and skills that you can apply in your everyday life to help you manage the things that led you here to begin with, rather than just "talking about them."

Many of the skills and tools that are provided in therapy, are exclusive to this process, so there is great benefit in doing the therapy process with a licensed professional. Therapists act as mere GPS's of client's experiences. You are the one in charge of the goals we create, the work we do together and the course we follow. We will rely on you to let us know these things, and then we'll tell you what will happen if we do x, y, z, or what roadblocks we may encounter along the way.

Ultimately, we know that you are the expert of your own life, we just want to guide you to live the best life possible and become the best version of you! I hope this answers your question and helps you decide that maybe therapy could be for you! Take care!
