how frequently is therapy considered for someone? how many day per week?

I’ve never done it but I want to try it out, I’m just not sure if I’m making the wise choice for myself. I just feel like I’ve felt like this for so long and I’m tired of it now.

Thank you so much for this question. It is a great question to ask especially for someone who is new to therapy! Thank you so much for considering therapy & congratulations! It is a huge step in a positive direction. I know it can be scary to reach out for guidance ... you are very brave in doing so & I hope I can answer your question effectively!

I honestly don't have an exact answer as I approach therapy from a client-centered approach, meaning actively listening to the client & gaining a full picture of their concerns & goals for therapy first before deciding how often therapy is needed.

I usually work with the client to develop a plan for their therapy with them & give my suggestions after the initial session. I typically recommend 1x/weekly for someone new to therapy! It is hard to gauge from your question what exactly the best fit for you would be & I would recommend you scheduling with a therapist to develop the best plan! You can schedule a messaging or video session first if that is more approachable for you!

The frequency of sessions can change with progress to every other week and eventually 1x/monthly. It may also depend on your financial situation & insurance - these are important factors to keep in mind as well!

From my perspective, it is my goal to help someone meet their goals & address their concerns in a timely manner & eventually get to a place where we are doing check-in's every so often (1x/monthly)! It is common for someone to stay in therapy weekly for months before transitioning to bi-weekly or 1x/monthly sessions. Everyone is unique in their process & it takes time to work with the right therapist & develop goals/plans to meet your needs.

I find it helpful to have the weekly therapy session in the beginning to keep you focused & on track with therapy goals. It is nice to set time aside for yourself during the week and know you will have someone to talk to about what is going on in your life.

I hope that answers your questions! Please reach out if you have any additional questions or need further clarification on your question.

Best,

Lindsay
