How would you describe your faith and relationship with God?

I struggle with gluttony & binge eating. This is something I want to be guided through, but from a Biblical stance. My faith is very important to me, and I want to make sure my therapist has very similar beliefs to me.

Hello,

I am sorry you are struggling but am glad you reached out. I understand it can be challenging at times and recognize this has not be easy.

So you have been thinking about the biblical stance with binge eating.  You are also concerned about struggles with gluttony. Gluttony is one of those situations in which we try to make ourselves feel like it's ok and minimizing the binging I suppose is what you are struggling with.  Some bible verses that are helpful with food and eating and binging:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:13 is a good one about temptation is goes as follows. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. This one is a good one, we all need to find a way and this verse speaks positive in light of the situation with the struggles of eating.
  • I also like  1 Corinthians 6:12 it  goes as follows - I have the right to do anything you say but not everything is beneficial. I have the right to do anything but I will not be mastered by anything. This one speaks with great self discipline and strengths. Look at your own inner strengths. Focus on what you can do and what your motivation is with moving forward with your relationship with food and what that looks like. Think about food and your relationship with God and how needs vs wants in God's eye plays a role. Looking at what you can control and what you want and desire verses what you need. Food is tricky as we need food but food can also be a desire, a comfort and it can become overwhelming at times. Consider what your relationship with food looks like and how to navigate that. Look at what your wants and needs are, with factoring in what you are triggered by with food.
  • There is a good verse by Romans 7:19-20 also. This verse speaks about good and want. When you think about what you can and cant control and focus on strengths and weaknesses, identify and validate them, recognize your faith and the role your faith plays and how food relationship and food needs verses wants contribute in daily life challenges. Thinking about triggers and feelings and how to regulate emotions and behaviors.

I hope this helps.
