I live in the UK can I still use the counselling services?

I live in the UK with my husband, two dogs and my 1 year old. I'm a nurse but do part time hours (23 hours a week) so I'm able look after my daughter and spend time with her. The counselor I've been matched with is in the US, how much contact would we have and how would this work with time difference and also different living circumstances in the US Vs the UK and different services available.

You can absolutely use this counseling service. One of the unique aspects of providing services through this platform is that you can use messaging, live chat, live phone and live video to maintain contact with your counselor in a much more responsive manner than traditional counseling. I am currently meeting with people in Australia, South Korea, the UK, China, and all the time zones in the US. Frequency of contact is variable upon your needs, methods in which you choose to communicate with your counselor and your particular counselor's availability.

Identifying times in which you can meet with your counselor when there is an adult to care for your child or when your child can reasonable be predicted to be napping or sleeping often works for individual counseling. Some of my sessions are built specifically around bedtime of a toddler.

Your other concerns in terms of the different services available in the UK vs the US are valid as in as a licensed clinical social worker in the US, I would not know specific services available for your child for instance. However, in my particular case being brought up in Denmark and by exposure in my education, do have some basic understanding of socialized medicine vs for profit.

I particurlarly work with people in identifying the generational values in a family system and how they learned to adapt to adverse circumstances as this is important in how we interact with our partner and what we pass onto our kids.

I can only imagine what these last 14 months must have been like for you as you work as a nurse, gave birth and are now raising a one year old during a pandemic.  Any one of those factors is a challenge in and of itself.

All of our counselors work with human conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress in a relationship, parenting issues which are generally global with particular cultural nuiances by building on your strengths and giving you perspectives and tools from another perspective.

I hope that answers your questions. Be gentle with yourself as this time in your live is precious. Rest when you can...
