Is there any way I could do just one session a month
Hey there, first off, let me say that it's a pleasure to have you here and to be part of your personal exploration. It sounds like you've recently had some insight about how your mind works and why there's been obstacles in the past in terms of behaviors and processes. The richness of life really comes through understanding. There is something so powerful about gaining insight about ourselves. When we start to understand what is going on behind the scenes, we start to realize that not only were our thoughts and feelings valid, but also that we are no longer alone in our struggles. I'm seeing that you desire to continue on the path of self-understanding. Counseling/therapy is a great way to get there. The great thing about being here with Betterhelp, is that you have the freedom to engage with counseling in the way that is right for you. If once a month is the desired amount you wish to start with, let your matched counselor know, and schedule as needed. At the end of the day, personal growth looks different for every single person. There's no "one size fits all" to therapeutic approaches. Thus, the therapeutic community wants to support you in whatever your process looks like. Furthermore, if counseling is new to you, it is understandable that you may need time to ease into the process. I also want to normalize that sometimes time is needed to be matched with a counselor/therapist that is right for you. You may not mesh with an initial matched counselor, and that is okay. There is no judgement here. There is always the space for open communication regarding this process. The ultimate desire is for you to find an appropriate therapeutic fit. It may take a couple of sessions with a few people to get into the groove with someone. Even if you find a good fit right away, warming up to a new person you are going to share personal details with also takes time. Give yourself the space to set the pace for the path you are choosing to journey on. The ultimate message is that if you are ready, we are here; in whatever that looks like. We can take this one step at a time.
