Hello LF,
Very nice to meet with you today as we examine your concerns and/or presenting issues and develop a treatment course. I see that your goals are to enhance your life goals and motivation to achieve in your career. It seems that you have a very good work ethic and feel discouraged with the “corporate ladder” climbing and the time that you sacrificed for the job. You can do anything that you want and put effort into such as starting a business needs to have a business plan.
If you start to focus on just the small goals first make a list and check it off or it can leave you procrastinating about the tasks. This can be achieved by learning what your emotional boundaries are as well as your physical boundaries and how this is imperative to have a positive work-life balance or you become a workaholic never having any self-care or relief.
You can certainly begin to list things that you will and will not tolerate while still being tolerant of things that you have no control over. Having a good routine and working on your goals each day will help manage the stress of feeling that it is all piling up on you and having positive stress relieving outlets will only clear your mind and enhance focus. Trusting in yourself to make the right career decisions for your future and the impact that your motivation and inspiration levels are dependent on.
If you didn’t get to the place that you wanted to be in relation to your career what were the barriers that were within your control to change or modify? You have little control of upper management politics. You can express concerns and such however it doesn’t mean that they will make those modifications or consider your career goals.
Feeling stuck is having no direction and no set goals. This is the first step and objective as far as goals in therapy. You have to be patient with yourself too and allow yourself time to adjust to the changes if you have that option. Take time to develop some good coping skills and consider thinking of what is best for you and your future life and goals. Gaining a sense of direction and examining your aspirations and desires. This is about what direction you desire to take and what barriers could potentially get in your way making sacrifices where you feel it is important to you. Develop a sense of career goals by completing some career assessments or seeking a career advisor and/or counselor to help guide you. This can help you to clarify what direction you seek to go to gain that objective in your career path.
Also, what are some of the hobbies that you have been wanting to do? Now that you have some time have you considered doing these hobbies again? Maybe make a list of some of the things that you have been wanting to do from the top things to the least things. Make a routine to do at least the top three during the week making this a goal. This can be added to a treatment goal as you work in therapy considering that is what you seek to do. This can make it more enjoyable to lessoning any anticipated anxiety to get back to things that make you feel good and self-soothing.
Also, gain self-confidence by having a good social network and completing following through with things, and being joyful in the moments of your life. Pay attention to the things around you that are alive and living. What are the daily purposes for them and you? What can we contribute positively each day? It seems that you have strong qualities of loyalty to your career and sometimes things change or become stagnate. I recommend a wise mind approach not based on the emotions of fear or uncertainty. Am I capable of moving forward and seeking the growth of change and opportunity being patient and compassionate as you would to others?
Journaling, relaxation, and using coping skills when feeling stuck in your intrusive thoughts. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will help you to develop skills to challenge anxious or intrusive thoughts more collectively with behavioral shifts that are noticeable and valid in treatment mobility. Helping to reduce some of the resistance and lack of motivation by adjusting to multiple changes that you are going through at the moment. Also, monitoring your sleep, appetite, and functioning levels. Paying attention to exercise and staying on a routine is imperative to feeling more motivated and focused. Talk to your support groups and seek a supportive network of friends and family that you trust and communicate well with. This gives you ideas and a platform to vent and feel not so alone in your thoughts and situation. Many times you develop a sense of well-being and agility knowing others have been there too giving some guidance and support. You can only move forward and self-defeat is not an option as that only defeats your energy flow too. Allow yourself to list your worries and frustrations. Make time to develop a future plan and construct it the way you desire not the way others desire or the corporate world expects from you.
I hope that you find this all insightful and helpful as you work through this change and adapt to the change. It would be recommended that you meet for an assessment to rule out conditions such as anxiety or mood-related symptoms to seek the evidenced-based treatment that fits your needs using a cognitive behavioral approach.
