What if I really need the therapy but can't afford it?

It's my first time living alone and I am not making enough money to afford most therapists on better help. I am worried for my wellbeing if I dont find good therapy.

Hi there. First I really want to commend you on recognizing that you need some help right now and seeking that help. That is actually a really tough thing to do. Many people find it extremely frustrating that therapy can be difficult to obtain, often due to high prices. Some therapists take insurance, while other therapists, including BetterHelp do not. What I would say is your absolute best option that you have right now is possible financial aid from BetterHelp. I know that I have read about possible scholarships for individuals who are unable to pay for the fees. Us therapists do not have anything to do with that process, but in order to find out if this is an availability to you, please contact support@betterhelp.com and ask about your eligibility for some sort of scholarship or financial aid. Hopefully this will be possible with you and you can then get matched with a therapist. Just in case this ends up not being a possibility for you, I would like to give you some more options for you to be able to access therapy. Now, you did not mention whether or not you have insurance. If you do, check their website for covered therapists. Once you have a list, you can do research and see whether or not they are a good fit for you. If you do not have insurance, some therapists will work with you with something called a sliding scale. So this can decrease the fee for sessions with individuals who have less ability to pay. So, if I were you I would ask any therapist you speak to if they have a sliding scale. Whether or not you have insurance, if you are not able to get a scholarship from BetterHelp, I would check the website www.psychologytoday.com to check out therapists in your area. They will talk about their style of counseling, which issues they tend to be able to help with, insurances they take, and possibly if they have a sliding scale. Honestly, my real hope for you is that you are able to get some financial aid here because it is a really good service. Thanks again for reaching out.
