Why is this so expensive?

I will buy this therapy whenever I have the money. However, until then I will have to wait. I’m sorry if this wastes anyone’s time. I’ll be back though!

Therapy, as a whole, is not an inexpensive venture. Depending on the type of counseling that you need, the intensity of the presenting problems are among other factors, the cost can become quite extreme.

Although the initial cost of online therapy with Better Help seems to be, at first glance, expensive for a monthly subscription, the reality is that when averaged out it comes to a fraction of the cost of what you might pay should you engage in traditional therapy with a face-to-face, in-person counselor.

Currently, the national average cost for seeing a therapist is approximately $90/session, with an average range between $60 and $120/session. The high end, however, is upwards of $250/session. Taking all of this in the account, with Better Help, you are offered several options of subscription with the most popular being a monthly cost of $260 which averages out to be approximately $65/week. However, included in the monthly subscription cost are additional amenities including live sessions provided through video, chat or phone, unlimited access to the website/app from any internet-connected device, the ability to message your therapist throughout the week (not an option with traditional counseling) and, from what I have experienced, an accelerated rate of recovery and resolution of presenting issues.

If you are having financial hardships, Better Help is committed to helping people get the therapy they need in the most cost-effective way they can. They have financial assistance programs that you can apply for that if eligible, can offer a significant percentage discount to aid you in being able to afford the therapy you are seeking. You can reach out to them at support@betterhelp.com and request an application for financial assistance.

Overall, there are benefits that you would have from using an online platform such as Better Help that simply are not made available to you should you engage in traditional counseling. The main difference is that you can have access to communicating with the therapist you are matched to throughout the week wherein in traditional counseling, once you leave the therapist's office, you have no further access for questions, comments, concerns or even complaints until you return for a follow-up visit.
