Carlene Messer, LCSW, LISW-CP
About me
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile. Congratulations on taking this positive step in getting the support that you need. My name is Carlene and I'm a licensed psychotherapist with 23 years of experience. I work individuals, couples, students, families and veterans. I have provided counseling services in many different settings including: a university counseling center, school system, private practice, community mental health centers and veterans within the VA system. These varied experiences have allowed me to develop an in-depth understanding of the ways that things can go wrong for people. My success in working with people stems from my desire to help them make sense of who they are, what they do and what they want in life. I strive to help them see the very best in themselves and others as well as the opportunities that they have. In these trying times there are many day-to-day stressors and we can often find ourselves lacking the skills to overcome these challenges. I work hard to help people set goals and to identify their strengths so that they are better able to deal with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, anger, relationship conflicts, abuse and trauma. My approach is eclectic as I draw from many different evidence-based interventions because we are all unique. Practically speaking one-size does not fit all. My style is laid back, common sense and often playful. A positive therapy experience can and should be enlightening and rewarding.
Warm Regards,
Carlene Messer

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Carlene Messer. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Carlene has been very caring, insightful and professional. I am also a mental health professional, however she has let me maintain the boundaries of being taken care of as a client instead of slipping into being a colleague and avoiding taking care of my own issues in session. We have accomplished a tremendous amount in the time we have worked together and I am so pleased with my progress under her care!

It’s been a short while with Carlene but in one session I was already feeling better about my future. The way she talks to you makes me feel empowered and not useless. I haven’t felt that in a long time. I highly recommend her.

Working with Carlene has made a huge impact in my healing journey. She pulls from a vast experience to help and advise with trauma, setting boundaries, facing betrayal and living with grief. She’s very easy to talk to and respectful of your time.

I came to Carlene because I wanted to work on my anxiety and depression. She was very understanding, listened carefully and guided me along the way with tools that I could use and practice with to address how I was feeling and why. She is very knowledgeable and provides great resources. That gave me so much comfort because I felt like I was understood. This made it easy for me to open up to her, something I had a hard time with in the past. I would highly recommend her to anyone who struggles with anxiety and depression because now I feel I have the tools and support I need to manage my mental health with positive results.
