About me

Hello. I am Cathy Heaps.
I have worked educating, training, counseling, and supporting people all my life. I graduated from Argosy University – Sarasota with a Master’s degree and have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for twenty years. I have also been certified by Grief Recovery as a Grief Recovery Specialist.

I have worked with a range of individuals, from people who are struggling with a terminal illness to people who have faced loss or many other barriers in their life. I believe most difficulties in life become apparent when there is a significant loss or major change in lifestyle.

I am passionate about my profession! I employ a variety of approaches including Gestalt Techniques, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Relaxation. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we discover positive ways to reconstruct negative thoughts. I teach Mindfulness and Relaxation to help recognize behaviors that are initiated by thoughts or emotions. I assist in identifying and restructuring those barriers and cognitive errors that are preventing you from moving forward.

I am a Rogerian Therapist, and it is my nature to be person-centered, empathic, non-directive, supportive, and compassionate. I have unconditional positive regard for my clients.

I do not have the answers to your problems – YOU HAVE THE ANSWERS! I provide reflective listening and give you the freedom to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgmental arena. I ask questions, often difficult ones, and regardless of how difficult those questions and answers may be, I will be by your side. Throughout your journey with me I provide a safe, comfortable environment, allowing you to be become confident as you explore the barriers to happiness in your life. I will support you in making your decisions. In this journey, I am at your side every step of the way.
