About me

I am a motivated, well-rounded, clinically and spiritually-minded LCSW with rigorous experience in acute psychiatry, behavioral health evaluative services, parenting and child/family work (both inside the home and in a clinical office setting), pre-teen/teen issues and some substance dependence group therapy, whom provided outpatient therapy services in the hospital setting and at an in-home counseling agency for children and families.

I had the privilege of training at the University of Norfolk State where I received my master’s in social work and gained a wealth of knowledge on the therapeutic process. As a previous employee at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters I utilized Beck’s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model that has been clinically proven to assist with depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as, anger issues, chronic pain, poor body image, low self esteem, troubled sleep, managing relationship stress, coping with physical illness and more. I utilize other modalities, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Image Rehearsal Therapy, Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy and others. I have experience working with patients in the medical setting as well as the acute care of a psychiatric hospital. I have worked with single diagnosis patients as well as co-morbid patients, as well as assisting and planning discharge for these patients. I was recently working with children and families in the outpatient setting providing counseling to children and families as well as providing parenting psycho-education.

I approach therapy holistically and I am interested in your entire life style, not just the mental aspect of your life. All the external factors greatly influences us and can change our mental health as well as can our childhood experiences. I love to dive deep into what makes you you, and learn as much as I can about your experiences to understand you as a whole person. Therefore, I also work with the spiritual side of our humanness, this is not a religious approach but an approach that dives into the deeper realms of who you are and therefore, helps me better help you help yourself reach your full potential! This approach is always only taken upon request and I work alongside you making sure I listen to your needs and wants and I greatly respect all your boundaries.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Christina Carey. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

I’m so grateful for Christina, I was able to feel comfortable shortly after my first video chatting. She’s very down to earth and I don’t have to hold back my emotions or thoughts when working through childhood and other traumas. I’ve been seeing her through Betterhelp for 5 months and I see such a shift in my marriage, family and boundaries I set with others. Cannot recommend her enough.

Christina's delivery of her expertise and skill as a therapist are both excellent. She is kind and patient. She has made it easy for me to speak on hard subjects and is open to hearing about my past experiences with therapy. I look forward to my next meeting with her :).

I feel supported in my healing and learning with Christina. I am optimistic and excited to work together more to address the issues I am facing. Better Help has been great in the ways there are various points of contact. I think I can better connect and be more authentic with Christina because she is able to see me at points(triggered etc) where she otherwise wouldn't if we saw each other traditionally (not online).

I have been meeting with Christina for a few weeks now and I really enjoy her positive energy. She's helped me to process my feelings and discern what the root causes are. I'm just starting out but I feel optimistic about the progress I'm making and the positive point of view I'm gaining on my situation.
