Devoted to not only assist you in embarking on a journey of self-discovery, but also, ways in which you can best utilize the gifts that you possess! I am an ambitious, strength based counselor yearning to change the ways that we view mental health. I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University where I obtained a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My professional credentials include Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon, Qualified Supervisor (QS), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) in the state of North Carolina.
My expertise stems in the treatment and management of co-occurring disorders, of which include experience in working with low motivation/self-esteem, life adjustments, trauma-related difficulties, anxiety/depression, substance use difficulties, as well as aspects of various mood and personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic, etc)! Although I consider myself to have knowledge in several treatment interventions, I utilize a combination of strength based and behavioral interventions, of which include Solution Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy with Choice Theory, as well as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT/DBT).
My approaches to counseling are grounded in holistic wellness and choice theory. Holistic approaches include inquiry about different aspects that make up your life and that you believe contribute to making you well or less well. These areas are integrative health approaches that focus on mental, body, spiritual, emotional, and connection wellness. I also harness skills to allow for further assessment and inquiry surrounding informed food choices, potential food allergies, as well as supplementation to aid with mental health improvements. Choice theory is an approach that focuses on our motivation to pursue a never-ending quest to satisfy 5 basic needs woven into our genes: to love and belong, to be powerful, to be free, to have fun and to survive.
I encourage all individuals to lean into the collaborative process between therapist and client to find solutions to better your mental health. This therapy pursuit also facilitates a process of taking responsibility for the perceptions and responsibilities of choices in your life. I adopt philosophies that adopt a bio-psycho-social lens to most assist individuals in taking ownership of their lives once again.
Additional areas of focus:LGBT, Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Parenting issues, Anger management, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, Coaching, Compassion fatigue, Abandonment, Aging and geriatric issues, Antisocial personality, Attachment issues, Avoidant personality, Blended family issues, Body image, Cancer, Caregiver issues and stress, Chronic pain, illness, and disability, Co-morbidity, Codependency, Commitment issues, Communication problems, Control issues, Coping with natural or human-caused disaster, Dependent personality, Dissociation, Divorce and separation, Domestic violence, Drug and alcohol addiction, Eating and food-related issues, Emptiness, Family of origin issues, Family problems, Fatherhood issues, First responder issues, Forgiveness, Guilt and shame, Hoarding, Hospice and end-of-life counseling, Impulsivity, Infidelity, Isolation / loneliness, Jealousy, Life purpose, Men's issues, Midlife crisis, Veteran and Armed Forces Issues, Money and financial issues, Mood disorders, Narcissism, Obsessions, compulsions, and OCD, Panic disorder and panic attacks, Paranoia, Personality disorders, Phobias, Polyamory / non-monogamous relationships, Postpartum depression, Post-traumatic stress, Prejudice and discrimination, Process addiction (porn, exercise, gambling), Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Self-harm, Self-love, Sex addiction, Sexual assault and abuse, Sexual dysfunction, Sexuality, Smoking / vaping cessation, Social anxiety and phobia, Traumatic brain injury, Workplace issues, Young adult issues

I've only been with Corey for two weeks. This was my first experience with a therapist. Corey has helped me navigate through some very difficult emotions that I had going on. He has checked in on me periodically between sessions. I highly recommend Corey to anyone who needs someone who is going through a rough time in life and feel like you're all alone and don't know how to process all what's going on mentally and emotionally. He's does really well at helping you sort through what's going on in a comfortable and non judgemental manner.

I have really enjoyed having Corey Pitts. He is a very good listener and he always responds back with thought provoking responses/questions. I always feel like he really listens to every feeling, concern, or just in general seems very in tune with me and my healing process. He also remembers family members or friends names of people I regularly bring up in therapy phone calls. It’s much easier to express myself knowing when I reference a sister or friend he is aware of who I’m talking about without reexplaining who they are each time. Corey seems very knowledgeable in his field and I would highly recommend him to others. He is also very timely for all phone sessions When he is unavailable to have a call he always checks on through messenger, so I never really feel like I can’t express myself any given week. He is also extremely professional which is important to me when it comes to therapy. Corey seems very intelligent and when we speak I like knowing he is highly aware of where I am at emotionally, and mentally . Again I would highly recommend him to other BetterHelp future clients.

I've been working with Corey over the past weeks. I truly thinks he cares abd he's easy to talk to. He checks up on me if I fail to check in if it's been a few days- that means a lot. He offers me ways/tools to help me overcome the many obstacles that I face on a daily basis.
I would greatly recommend Corey as a very empathetic, patient and non-judgmental counselor.

I had been text messaging with Corey for about a month now. Although he is limited to texting or voice recordings I have not found this to be an issue. If anything, he leverages text messaging to assist in constructing well thought out responses to one's questions and concerns. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a therapist but may be too shy to voice or just simply appreciate a slower pace to questions and answers.

So far in my sessions with Corey, he has been the type of counsellor I needed. He is professional, empathetic, and offers multiple tools for my success. Corey allows me to speak how I am feeling and asks me constructive questions to help me think deeper about the things I need to improve. Corey replies promptly which is really nice for clients looking for more of a messaging centred experience! Thank you so much Corey! Your support has been such a difference in my life.

I’ve only been talking with Corey Pitts for about two weeks. Every effort I’ve made with previous counselors failed and I wasn’t comfortable with them however, it’s easy to talk with him. He listens and is patient and he responds as quickly as possible. I was hesitant and was thinking of giving up on finding a counselor but thought I’d give it one more try, and now I understand why counseling is helpful.

Corey is phenomenal. Attentive. Quick to respond and has a way of making me feel like I am a priority in his day to day even though I'm sure he's slammed busy. I was going to make this a one month trial but have decided that my life and my perspective has already improved with a few weeks of Coreys help. I am forming better relationships with others and am understanding myself better than I ever have in 26 years of life. Thank you Corey.
