I am Leeann Mickel, I have a masters degree in educational psychology with an emphasis on community counseling. I have my LPC, licensed professional counselor Masters level. I also have an LC DC licensed chemical dependency counselor. I have worked 20 + years in the field of service. I have had great success with clients who have experienced significant trauma. I have been Clinical Supervisor for a substance abuse residential setting. I am currently Clinical Director for the agency with whom I am employed
at this time. I believe it to be my mission helping and serving. My approach is client centered we start where you are. I am very laid-back and personable, I have forever been told how easy it is to talk to me, even prior to my chosen career! That’s a plus when you’re a therapist! I have some clients who simply need an ear and guidance. Others are eager to get to the cause of what prompted them to reach out. Either is great. I understand that some people need to vent and receive professional advice. I tell all of my clients you have inside you now everything you need to heal and progress. My job is to guide you on the journey in this process of self discovery and healing. I also tell my clients that I will work just as hard as you in doing this, but I will never work harder. This would cause more harm by handicapping them if others around never allow my clients to learn through experience, and rob my client of demonstrating to themselves the opportunity to see how capable they actually are. I have worked with many populations: adolescents, adults with variety of disorders/conditions. Such as mental health diagnosis like depression, bi polar, anxiety, and PTSD. For the last six years I have led our adolescent program. I'm very familiar with self harming behaviors, and have a knack of being able to reach them and slowly process into self love. I also have extensive experience with grief which may look different and feel different among different clients. Even those who believe that have mourned and grieved, but truly have not. I look forward to working with you and helping you along your specific path. My schedule is very flexible, as a I only work from home, virtually/remote. During therapy it will be common to give 'experiments' following a session. The purpose for this is taking from our sessions and applying what you learn to your 'real life' outside of one session weekly for an hour.

Cynthia has been amazing at helping me through my crisis. She listens and encourages me to talk and open up about things that have been buried for years. With Cynthia I feel like I'm talking to a trusted friend who sometimes gives me assignments. I don't think I would have gotten through this year without her and I am so very appreciative.

I've been working with Cynthia for a few months now and she is wonderful at her job. As a former skeptic, it was hard for me to trust in the process of therapy. I have seen a couple of therapists and been stuck in a cycle of not actually being sure if I was progressing or growing. I started to worry that was happening and expressed my need to Cynthia for more structure and goals to meet, she was immediately responsive and met my needs! I have come leaps and bounds in the last few months. After suffering significant trauma in the past few years and feeling so helpless, I now feel confident and present and extremely hopeful :) thanks so much Cynthia

When I first heard of BetterHelp I was nervous it would be like all my past therapy sessions.
But I was matched with the perfect therapist for me!
I was a total mess with my life and inside my head.
I would highly recommend Cynthia.

Miss Cynthia has been one of the best things that has happened in my life. She is kind and caring but will also call me out and give me the tough love I need sometimes. It is hard to find people that understand and lived through a rough life. I trust Cynthia and enjoy our weekly visits.

Cynthia provides valuable support and guidance to help understand a bit more about myself. Understand that it’s important to check on myself on a daily and not to feel at fault for my flaws or behaviors.

It is rare to find an active listener. She loves being of help beyond that, but let's be rea: I don't shut up. That she pays attention is a testament to her strength of will, stg.

Cynthia is an amazing therapist. She’s the best therapist I’ve had in 30 years of therapy. She listens and understands and I never feel rushed or unimportant. My insurance offered to pay for another therapist outside of BetterHelp but I still pay for BH just so I can keep Cynthia. She’s the best!

We matched on the first try within 24 hours, Still not sure, I was quickly put at ease. Cynthia is an active listener, who remembers past sessions or information in your journals. Remembering is key for me because it shows how much she listens, strives to understand her patient, and makes you accountable.

Cynthia listens and takes in everything I’m saying. I appreciate the way she engages with me. She asks questions, confirms what I’m feeling and provides me with advice and tools I can use to improve my life. I can see and feel things shifting. At first I thought I’d give therapy a month but now I’ll be extending out because the benefits and what I’m learning is so worthwhile. The app itself too is fantastic! It’s nice to know Cynthia is there for me outside of our session times!

Cynthia is really relatable and patient. And provides a very good and safe place for me to just unpack, and be confident she will be there to help me make my way back to a good mental space after a particularly introspective session. Very kind and approachable as well when it comes to deeper themes that could potentially be triggering to talk about with other therapists - Cynthia does her best!
