Hello, and thanks for checking out my profile. My name is Dan, and I've been a professional counselor for about 15 years now. I have enjoyed having the opportunity to help many people over the years achieve greater functioning in their lives.
Counseling, as I practice it, is a discussion of your goals and how you want to pursue them. When we meet, we discuss how your efforts go, as well as the changes you want to make in pursuit of them. I provide constructive feedback, but my role is not to express judgment over what you feel you want to pursue, though I may make suggestions on how you might want to pursue it.
While I have worked with clients of many backgrounds and diagnoses, I feel that my approach works best with those who are working to better various relationships, those who are working to deal better with their responses to things, dealing with the effects of various mood and personality disorders (depression, mania, anger, anxiety, borderline personality disorder), as well as those working to maintain abstinence from substance use.
I do have particular interests in working with those who are transitioning between phases of life (high school, college, career, etc.), and those who are working to overcome roadblocks in various creative endeavors (art, music, writing).
All that said, I may not be a great option for those who are participating in counseling involuntarily, as my process benefits from a client's sincere interest in making meaningful change. I would add that I would not likely be a good fit for those seeking couples' counseling, for those seeking help with pornography or sex addiction, or for those seeking Christian or spiritual counseling.
My approach is personable, informal, and non-directive. I aspire to be non-judgmental, and I try to really be a person in your corner, whatever corner that might be. If you're interested in exploring whether I might be a helpful support for you, I hope you'll feel comfortable in taking the next step to reach out and let me know how I can try to be of help to you.
Please be aware, I'm currently available for phone or video sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursday afternoons. I can text through the week, but do not generally check my messages on the weekends.

When you choose a therapist, a feeling of mutual understanding is really important to me. I found in the past that if your therapist doesn't seem to "connect" with you, then despite their experience and competence you might struggle to find value in the sessions. With Dan, I found his vibe and his flexibility with trying to really understand where I was coming from to be comforting. It has been a very useful experience for me and I would recommend Dan to others seeking that understanding and support, even aside from the areas of specific expertise he has.

Dan has helped me navigate through some incredibly challenging times and very unusual situations, where it felt like someone else's life depended on me. He's been an incredible support and made me much, much stronger than I was before, to make some big and hard decisions that really have improved my life. It's a slow burn type of counselling, I never think we've really discussed much until I find myself thinking very differently about things later in the week. I appreciate that, he is slowly and subtly changing my thought patterns to be more healthy, and it makes a big difference. I'm so much more confident in my decisions and myself than I was. I have a lot more to improve, but I know that Dan will be there to help me along that journey too.

Written on Jan 11, 2021 after therapy with Dan for 2 years and 8 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, family conflicts, trauma and abuse, self esteem, and bipolar disorder
I highly recommend Dan Cooper. I think he helped me grow as a person over the past two years. Therapy with Dan has been very worth the time and effort to continue the process. I'm happier, more successful, and have learned new ways to help myself.
Dan is easygoing, good with rapport and communication, and great with analogies and following my trains of thought. Dan is very good at listening and helping me clarify my thoughts. I've found him to be available and consistent, very professional and ethical, and easy to get along with. He's a great sounding board and not judgemental. He is good at remembering the context of situations and my life events I've talked about and understanding how that fits into my current thoughts.
Over time, he has helped me identify patterns in my behavior and then gives options to make changes (or stick with things) to get what I want out of life. He asks exceptionally in tune questions that make me stop and think. The process has taken time; Dan has been incredibly consistent in working through each thing with me.
The process he facilitates has helped me with other relationships, enabling me to be more open and direct. Dan helped me identify and establish boundaries for myself in many situations by working through events in my life. My thinking is more transparent, and I have a better approach to achieving what I want in life.
I now find behavior patterns on my own. I will write notes about things that I want to be different in my life and brainstorm before meeting up with Dan on a video chat. The conversations that follow seem to have more "breakthroughs" as I find myself better prepared to help myself in our sessions versus when we first started.
Dan is outstanding at what he does. Anyone would be lucky to work with him.

I have been working with Dan for over a year now I believe. He has been wonderful. He makes me laugh sometimes, which is always great, he has been a great support in dealing with practically everything, and he is always respectful. I can tell that he actually cares about me and not just because he sends messages if I am MIA for a bit. I still remember being skeptical about BetterHelp before and now I am handing out recommendations. Thank you Dan and everyone at Better Help.

Dan makes good suggestions that I can follow through on. He gives me positive feedback when I tell him about my successes, and gives me further suggestions when I am struggling. I never feel blamed or faulted in what he says to me. He is also very patient in waiting for my replies when they are slow in coming, and prompts me in a kind way if he doesn’t hear from me in a few days.

I was initially very skeptical about all of this coming into it and being online was deeply concerning for me. Dan pretty quickly alleviated my concerns and is starting to help me identify some of the key issues that are holding me back. I'm really excited to see where he can take me because I've never felt like I connected to someone before and I really think we're starting to make a breakthrough, even though it's still early days. I would 100% recommend Dan and better help if you're suffering from stress or anxiety. There's no judgement here and it's great to have control over your own sessions.
