About me

Hello, I am Darrell Patterson, a License Mental Health Therapist who has enjoyed the privilege and honor of accompanying others on their journey to achieve a psychologically good life. I wholeheartedly agree with the statement “… To deal with minds is the greatest work ever committed to men.” My experience over the past nine years as a mental health clinician has afforded me the opportunity to work with children and families incorporating cognitive behavioral and person-centered interventions proven to achieve positive outcomes.

There’s absolutely no doubt that life ushers in a host of issues that can easily trouble the heart, create anxiety, depression and other distresses that interrupt the happiness we all desire to enjoy in our lives. The good news is that there is good reason to be hopeful even if you’re not feeling it at this moment. That’s because the therapeutic relationship that consist of unconditional positive regard and trust provides an extraordinary space to train and educate every power of the mind and body.

My background and experience inform my world view and even though our world views may not sync perfectly, there is still opportunity to collaborate in helping to reconstruct positive narratives that define and achieve the quality of life we desire without settling for the pain of distress and unhappiness. I humbly acknowledge the value of wisdom supplemented by the academic achievements that equip me to render counsel and encouragement.

I received my undergraduate degree some years ago from Florida State University and enjoyed my first career endeavors as a Commissioned officer in The United States Army, followed by various occupations in the field of business and a corporate trainer before arriving at my authentic call of service to others. It was in 2012 that I graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a master’s in counseling and psychology. Virtually all my dedication has been devoted to helping other’s escape the entanglement of depression, anxiety and unresolved traumas. I’m happy to engage in a process of reasoning and healing.

Relatable, Compassionate, Good Listener, Patient, & Professional,

Written on Dec 02, 2024 after therapy with Darrell for 2 years and 9 months on issues concerning family conflicts, grief, and coping with life changes

My husband and I had been experiencing ongoing communication fallouts and problems seeing eye-to-eye for years causing a lot grief and resentment, and to make matters worse, days before our first meeting, my husband also disclosed that he'd been hiding multiple affairs. To say Darrell Patterson's counseling couldn't have come at a better time is a gross understatement. I really enjoy his professional yet fatherly/elder like approach to our sessions. He understands the pain and severity of infidelity and has himself expertly voiced to my husband my hurts/concerns without me really saying a word. Obviously there's much, much more to unpack, but I finally feel validated and heard. We've had about 6 couple's sessions but I've been very pleased thus far with the help he's providing and look forward to what else can be learned and discovered.

Darrell is professional, kind hearted, and wise. He has a very reassuring and non judgmental demeanor, and I can say honestly that I have already learned a lot in just a few sessions. He is not just a listening ear, he is teaching me skills that I have been able apply in my battle with my mental health issues.

I’ve felt safe talking to Darrell; he’s helped me sort out several issues I needed someone to talk to but didn’t have a trusted friend to do so with.
