I am a mental health counselor and therapist for individuals looking to address difficulties related to emotional instability, communication and relationship issues, identity struggles and trauma (of violent and/or religious origin). I work from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective, focused on mindfully accepting without judgment the thoughts and experiences that we often attempt to avoid through various behaviors, with the goal of expanding your flexibility when working through the personal difficulties that come up in life.
I live by the philosophy of therapy that I use, attempting to live a life of careful acceptance of others as they are, without a judgment that blinds me to who they are as whole people. I do not style myself a guru or plan on having you as a client for the rest of your life. Instead, I actively am attempting to work myself out of a job, by helping build skills of thought and emotion you can use to move out of unhelpful and unhealthy habits into a more flexible and resilient way of living.
Additional areas of focus:LGBT, Family conflicts, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Self esteem, Depression, Coping with life changes, Coaching, Compassion fatigue, Attachment issues, Communication problems, Domestic violence, Family of origin issues, Fatherhood issues, Forgiveness, Guilt and shame, Infidelity, Isolation / loneliness, Life purpose, Men's issues, Midlife crisis, Veteran and Armed Forces Issues, Polyamory / non-monogamous relationships, Post-traumatic stress, Sexual assault and abuse, Workplace issues

Brilliant. Quick, well-learned, well-spoken, and still feels familiar like you're speaking to a friend or a cousin

David was awesome, he had a whole lot of perspective and was extremely caring. I am going to continue using the things he has taught me moving forward and I feel so much better. Sometimes you just need an extra layer of support while you bring out the things you already know and increase your confidence in implementing. So far David has been great in having me arrive at the things I need to do on my own while providing practical and safe advice. David also recognizes when I’m not acknowledging the severity of the situation or rationalizing things I shouldn’t.

We've only had one session so far, but I've been pleasantly surprised at the "match" of a therapist I received based on what I was hoping to find. Looking forward to continuing therapy and further evaluating the process.

David always gives me the space to say what I need and work throug my issues. If he hears me wording something poorly for my mental health he offers alternative ways of looking at the issue or framing what I am dealing with.
After working with him for a few months, I have a better feel for how to regulate and work with my emotions during the day instead of ingnoring them. He als also helped me identify challeges I have with communication and has given me strategies and insight to move forward. He has provided information on external resources such as books and articles as I have requested them.
If you need someone who will listen well and give you well researched advice then David Teachout is a great choice.
