Just so you can get to know me a bit better: I am a mental health counselor with a PhD in Health Psychology, which focuses on how different layers like biology, psychology, cultural, social, and environments factors influence health and wellness (that's a mouthful)! I know that having online therapy is a unique experience and different than what it would be if you saw me in my office for one hour a week. I also know each person I talk with has their own ideas and feelings about therapy and what it may be like.
If we were together in my office, I would probably have a cup of coffee, sitting relaxed with you...chatting for a few minutes before we begin. And I would tell you to please call me Deb! So just imagine an incredibly relaxing environment, super comfortable, and me genuinely smiling at you and asking how you are doing, and what has brought you to therapy...
Being a feminist therapist, the way I approach our relationship is collaborative...so we will both share our thoughts and ideas as we decide what to do. My approach to therapy is humanistic; I honor each story as a collection of experiences...continuously evolving. This perspective is not about shortcomings, but one of optimism, focusing on the strength of the human spirit to overcome challenges and seek fulfillment.

Dr. Kutner is phenomenal - she's not "just a therapist" who sits back, nods, and asks how you feel. She's truly a friend who engages with you and makes you feel heard - offering a ton of knowledge and expertise from the HEART. SO thankful for her and her wisdom, humor, and kind-hearted spirit!

This is my third set of sessions with Deb, I come back every year for 3 months and it has been three years now. I trust in her expertise and professionalism. Talking things out with her has given me the courage to face the storm of life, and I think I owe part of my life success to her; for me to enjoy life more and be more productive in my work. Thank you, Deb. :)

Deb is a life saver. I have come out of a dark tunnel thanks to her. She’s not stiff, formal and careless like many therapists I saw before her. Her feminism makes her so much more mature and progressive too. I just couldn’t have felt better without her. I am so glad I found her.

Therapy with Dr. Kutner (aka Deb!) has been a lifesaver for me during this global pandemic. Deb meets you where you are and facilitates self-compassion and self-acceptance. I’m so grateful to have found such a brilliant therapist; her feminist approach and open-minded worldview made her the perfect match for me. If you are looking for a kind, compassionate, warm and understanding therapist who can help you feel better, Deb is the one!

Conversations with Deb feels just like having a chat with your most trusted friend - easy and relaxed. We would always start with a comfortable, casual chat, then I'd describe my issues or thoughts, and Deb would share her ideas and perspectives in helping me process my thoughts, or identify the core of the rumination. We would also work on themes (on relationships in particular) for the week which helped me in staying focused on my goals.
As someone who is new to therapy, I was initially hesitant and was feeling uncomfortable about the whole process. However, my experience with Deb has certainly made me a believer in the efficacy of therapy (especially for personal growth) and would highly recommend her for anyone who is curious about trying it out.

Dr. Kutner goes above and beyond to help her clients. She does not use a one size fits all approach, but gets to know you and then utilizes many methods to help you and discover how to best help yourself. Her style enables you to examine all aspects of your life and her kind, nurturing style makes it easy to be upfront and open. I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is going through a life transition and is looking for a compassionate therapist to guide them through.

I spent weeks reading therapist biographies and reviews on the BetterHelp website before taking the step to sign up. I didn't know what to expect. Fear and anxiety played a big part in my life. Signing up for this website and working with Deb changed all that. Deb's gracious and compassionate nature gently guided me to a different way of looking at the world. Without a single negative word, she helped me. If you're reading this, and you are unsure about the next step... I can tell you that you're already making it by being here. Welcome to your next step, you're in great hands with Deb :)

I love therapy but have lost some of my faith in it as I’ve learned more about the ways that the more harmful aspects of our culture operates through it, often invisibly. And with how typical therapeutic approaches are not trauma-informed and fail to account for the full picture of what contributes to the stressors that bring us to therapy - the very real social, political, and environmental factors that go beyond our “mindset” or individual psychology. Working with Dr. Kutner is a breath of fresh air and genuinely helpful, as she comes from a feminist approach and looks at the whole picture. I would highly recommend her!

After trying many counselors, I have been so thrilled to meet Dr. Deb! Unlike others, she doesn't throw worksheets and reflections at me, and she doesn't say the same thing repeatedly. She really listens and connects with me as a human being. I honestly think she'd be a great match for anyone because she's just so good!

Deb is like the wise confidante I've always wanted but with all the knowledge of a professional! She is kind, compassionate and really listens. Deb read my messages and responded to all of my concerns. I really felt like she really cared and listened.I didn't feel like she was distracted or didn't care just because I wasn't there in person. I didn't miss actually seeing my therapist in person or getting live feedback in normal conversation. For me this was just like regular, in person therapy but better. I had plenty of time to really think and process what Deb said. I had time to reflect and write my responses. I didn't feel rushed like in person. I wasn't going to run out of time. And my written conversations with her work as a journal. I've never journaled before. But now I have written records of our conversations for reference and guidance anytime I need it. You can't do that in regular therapy unless you take notes. That's really hard when you're crying in person and going through all of your therapist's Kleenex! What I got instead was an invaluable feeling of having someone to talk to that I could count on: a support system that I don't have in real life. From a person that would not criticize or judge. Which I guess is true for all therapists, but Deb Kutner is a gifted listener and healer with a warm and welcoming presence. You've got someone now! You just get this vibe that you're safe with her. And everything will be okay. I haven't gotten that vibe with every therapist I've had. Bonus, no stress relating to commuting to her office! I was so worried online therapy wouldn't work. Honestly the first therapist I tried didn't work for me. But it was easy to switch. No need to stress. No awkward phone call or in person breakup with a therapist! Better help customer service is great. They responded quickly and answered all my questions. So if you have any doubts, go for it. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose.
Thank you Deb. Thank you so much for your help during such a difficult time in my life!
