About me

I look forward to working with you. I am a divorced mother of an adopted son. I received my Master of Social Work degree from Howard University in Washington, DC. I am licensed in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. I have over 30 years' experience in the profession working in a variety of venues, including mental health and medical facilities, community agencies and employee assistance programs. I cannot imagine another career for myself. My experience includes working with:
ADHD
Adoption
Anxiety Disorders
Bipolar Disorder
Christian-Focused Treatment (upon request)
Chronic Mental Illness
Chronic Pain/Chronic Medical Illnesses
Depression
Empowerment Theory
Individual Subjected to Domestic Violence
Individuals with Differing Abilities
Life Transitions (Adolescence to adulthood, retirement, transfers due to work or military assignments)
Mental Health and Substance Use
Mindfulness
Pregnancy Loss
Schizophrenia and Related Disorders
Task-Centered Therapy
Trauma
Work-Related Conflict

I strive to be empathetic and encouraging in my work with clients. My primary training has been cognitive-behavioral, but also includes dialectical-behavioral, strengths-based, task-centered, and empowerment frameworks and use of Mindfulness.

I get a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I helped foster growth in a way that makes a client feel safe, at peace and more fulfilled in life. It is easy to feel like a failure when things don't go as you expect. It takes courage to accept the help of others. I reinforce to my clients that reaching their goals takes time, planning and patience. I'm there to provide guidance and support to help achieve their specific goals.
