Dr. Vanessa Dahn, LPC
About me
I am licensed in Maine with 18 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with relationship issues, trauma and abuse, coping with grief and loss, & motivation, self esteem, and confidence. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you.
Educationally, I hold a Bachelors of Science in Sociology and Criminology, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I also hold three Master's Degrees in: Sociology; Counseling and Human Services; and Psychology. My Doctorate Degree is in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine. Since 2006 I have worked as a Professor of Psychology and Sociology both online and face to face at several renowned Colleges and Universities in the US.
I am an Existential Psychotherapist, who through using Existential techniques, helps individuals find their way to a healthier sense of self. I also enjoy teaching how to overcome a traumatic past by applying optimistic tools. Trained in Positive Psychology and in Existentialism, I built a unique skill set that focuses on the positives of life; meaning and purpose; and the strengths of the client.
On a personal note I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 45 years. Together we raised 19 children (5 biological and 14 'extras'). Of the 'extras,' nine were nieces and nephews from dysfunctional and abusive homes. We adopted seven of the 14 kiddos. As the former Executive Director and Owner of a Colorado State licensed Group Center, I helped provide much needed care to over 200 system males between 11-21 years of age for 13 years. Additionally, as my hubby served for 22 years in the Army joining right out of high school, I followed him around the world as he served.
Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for reaching out and getting started!
