Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Florida with 40 years of experience as a dedicated mental health professional.
I received an M.Ed in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University Graduate School of Education and an MSW in Clinical Social Work from Smith College School for Social Work. I have worked in multiple clinical settings including inpatient psychiatry, addiction treatment units, school counseling programs, and outpatient mental health clinics. My experience is primarily with adults who are dealing with mood disorders (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder), substance use disorders, anger/stress management, grief/loss. and relationship issues. I was also a member of the Suicide Prevention team at the Bay Pines Veterans Administration Health Care System for eight years and developed the skills and resources to offer assistance to Veterans and their families. I am currently engaged in a private practice in St Petersburg, FL.
My treatment approach is collaborative, solution-focused, strength-based, and recovery-oriented. I specialize in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. My personal counseling style is warm, compassionate, supportive and interactive. Making the effort to overcome personal problems can be anxiety provoking but also deeply satisfying and rewarding. I feel honored when clients are willing to openly discuss their fears, hopes, and concerns with me. My hope is that our work together will be a collaborative effort and that I will be an ally for you in dealing with your issues and life challenges. I value and appreciate the opportunity to join you on your journey of personal growth and positive change.
I am here to offer guidance and support and look forward to working with you!

Eileen is one the most compassionate people I have ever met. Not only is she a wonderful counselor, she is an awesome mentor. I look up to her and how she is able to assist with various problems and still manage to stay unbiased.

This service has saved my life. Four weeks ago I was so depressed I couldn't shower, couldn't eat, only slept. Still recovering from an injury in March I have been distraught at times, completely inconsolable. One morning I saw a promotion being run through Arianna Grande on Instagram. She was donating $100,000 in therapy, I believe, which individuals could sign up for in the form of one free month of sessions with Betterhelp. I cannot thank her enough and how vital this was. Without that promotion I couldn't afford this service. I don't know where I would have beeb mentally without it.
Eileen O'Connell stepped right into the role as my counselor and it felt like I had known her my whole life. I am comfortable talking to her and have been from the begining about my most personal situations. She is compassionate and understanding. Eileen engages my mind to work through any issues I may have had arise durring the week as well as helping me work through situations from my past. As a patient is was important that my therapist have an open availability with several options for communication. Not only did Eileen meet the requirements I had set, she went above and beyond my expectations. She responded to my journal entries appropriately throughout the weeks. I regularly recieved educational worksheets from Eileen to read and/or to fill out in order to help me comprehend more adequately my feelings, or for example an issue that may have arose. The most important part, I feel better about me. I feel equipped to better control my anxiety, and am able to cognitively make better decisions in the moment by being mindful. I am so grateful for the counselor/patient relationship I formed in such a short time, I know it has been beneficial for me. I would without a doubt recommend this service to others in the future.

I was overwhelmed and in a dark, sad place when I signed up with betterhelp earlier this year. Eileen was assigned to me and I couldn't have asked for a better counselor. Eileen is insightful, completely objective and I looked forward to our sessions every week. With her help, I'm so happy and relieved to say that I have made leaps and bounds in a matter of weeks. I would highly recommend betterhelp and Eileen to friends and loved ones.
