My name is Elizabeth “Liz” Smith. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania, and a National Certified Counselor. I completed my master's degree in professional counseling at Waynesburg University in 2010 as a nontraditional student.
I have primarily worked with those who have struggled with depression, anxiety, career issues, mood dysregulation, relationship and couple problems, and other life challenges presented by any type of life being disordered. I have worked with many families and children on the autism spectrum and have been told that my insight is helpful. I have obtained Specialized Family Therapy Certification and training to provide Co-Parenting, Trans-Parenting, and Re-unification services. Finally, I have also studied and provided grief and loss approaches in counseling.
As a therapist, I walk alongside and focus on each person’s specific identified needs and I adjust my style accordingly. In addition to trauma evidence-based approaches, I tend to draw from client centered, solution focused, strength based and motivational approaches. Many of my clients have reported experiencing increased positive self-image, freedom from emotions tied to traumatic memories, and improved constructive communication and coping skills.
I am down to earth and approachable. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, and without judgement, accepted and understood. I will check and respond to messages at least twice daily, six days a week. I will offer live chat, phone sessions and occasional video sessions weekly, mostly between the hours of 8 AM and 6 PM on identified days of the week.
Additional areas of focus:Relationship issues, Family conflicts, Intimacy-related issues, Sleeping disorders, Anger management, Self esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, Compassion fatigue, ADHD, Abandonment, Attachment issues, Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Blended family issues, Caregiver issues and stress, Co-morbidity, Codependency, Commitment issues, Communication problems, Control issues, Coping with natural or human-caused disaster, Dependent personality, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD), Dissociation, Divorce and separation, Domestic violence, Family problems, Forgiveness, Guilt and shame, Infidelity, Jealousy, Midlife crisis, Mood disorders, Obsessions, compulsions, and OCD, Panic disorder and panic attacks, Post-traumatic stress, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), Self-harm, Self-love, Sexual assault and abuse, Social anxiety and phobia, Women's issues, Workplace issues, Young adult issues

Elizabeth or as I call her “Liz” is a wonderful therapist. She listens to me and allows me to speak freely. Which I’m sure isn’t always easy because sometimes I ramble and repeat myself. However, it’s more than just that. She tells me the stuff that might be hard to hear, but delivers it in a polite way as to not trigger me. She’s extremely helpful and has helped me overcome my own personal problems with myself and also in my life.

She was able to identify root issues regarding a cycle of behavior I've been in for my entire life -- a pattern I've asked the Lord to reveal the answer to for the last 15 years. She offered hope, Scripture principles, practical resources, and suggestions for action steps that made a tremendous difference. I will be forever grateful for the timing and gift of working with Elizabeth.
