About me

My name is Elizabeth Scala and I am a licensed social worker. I have practiced social work for 40 years in Michigan and Canada. My background includes 28 years as a medical social worker, and early years working with children and adults in psychiatric settings. I am new to remote work and look forward to learning and growing with you.

My focus is on how we as people are always trying to do what we think is best for our own safety, survival, and happiness. Yet we can feel unhappy, anxious, and have behaviors we want to change. I believe we are many parts that make one whole person, and it is helpful to recognize each part of ourselves. In sorting through each aspect of ourselves, we find a way toward happiness and healing.

Life has many opportunities for happiness. But our feelings and experiences can make us doubt our worth and ability to feel joy. As a therapist I try to be a partner in your journey to discover those parts of life and yourself you can trust and enjoy.

My techniques are learning from you, research and application of any therapeutic approach you may find helpful and finding resources in your world to help meet your goals. I follow established social work theories of psychosocial development, systems theory, and the strengths perspective of psychotherapy.
I have experience with people who are coping with medical problems, disability, grief, loss, caregiver stress, behavior problems, anger, anxiety, depression, and coping with difficulty social circumstances.

Medical issues and recent adverse medical diagnoses.

I've only been with Elizabeth for a short time, but I can say that I greatly appreciate her demeanor and insight. Y'all, she's pretty great.

I was so pleased to find Elizabeth help – – I find her to be very empathetic, logical, caring, thoughtful and extremely easy to talk to. She has directed me to lots of resources to concretely help me solve problems, both therapy-related and nuts and bolts of day to day life. I especially feel that she can identify with issues I may be having because we are closer in age than my previous therapist was, and I enjoy her calm demeanor and good humor. Our weekly sessions feel very much like catching up with a good friend who always seems to know what to say. I’m very glad to be able to check in with someone who listens carefully and suggests directions I didn’t see before — and grateful for her expertise and warmth.

Elizabeth has helped me through one of the roughest parts of my life. She has helped me gain a lot of insight, but more than anything, she listens to me and tries to guide me to bettering myself and my view on life. I owe a lot of my recovery to her kindness, encouragement, and patience, though I’m not back to 100%, but with her help, I’m slowly making my way there.
