About me

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 22 years of experience counseling primarily adults in the state of Indiana. I believe in the practice of "unconditional positive regard," meaning I will never be judgmental or shaming during my time with you. Instead, I will be sincere, engaging, supportive and encouraging you in your journey towards a better you.
My experience in counseling includes those with Depression, Grief, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, ADHD, Relationship issues, Abuse (sexual and domestic), Shame-based Family of Origin issues, Co-Dependency, and Addictions.
In therapy I use a blend of Adlerian and Cognitive Behavioral therapies, which focuses on how our thinking, feeling, and behavior can drive dysfunctional living, and
conversely, how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can be changed to produce a healthier, productive lifestyle. To that end, in addition to talk therapy, I use didactic, experiential, and the use of parables to help facilitate your progress. The use of "homework" I find keeps clients engaged in the therapy process while not in session.
If you choose to work with me, together we will make a plan of treatment based on your goals for seeking treatment, and I will walk with you every step of the way.
I am fully aware you have tried everything else before walking through the virtual door and I respect you for your courage in seeking help at this time.

Very knowledgeable, patient and understanding

Emily is an excellent therapist. Her demeanor is friendly, respectful and nonjudgmental. She will use thought provoking worksheets as “homework “ when appropriate to help her clients work through issues. Emily will sometimes use examples from her own life experiences to illustrate a point. She has a conversational style that can quickly put her clients at ease. Emily has been an immense help to me and I highly recommend her.

I haven’t even made it through more than 3 sessions and I can tell how involved she wants to be. She listens well, gives guidance where needed and gives great assignments to work on between sessions. She does great at looking at all aspects of your life even if you think “why is she wanting to talk about this?” She always connects dots in ways you wouldn’t have thought. Definitely recommend and will be sticking with her for as long as needed!!

Emily is very friendly and put me at ease immediately. I've had a host of bad counselors before, the most recent of which I had just fired the day I was matched with Emily. She listens and understands and doesn't try to tell me how I feel or make me feel worse for struggling with my emotions. I'm comfortable enough with her that I'm willing to open my proverbial Pandora's box with her, whereas with other counselors I would quit at this point because that box needed to stay locked and chained and in a faraway corner. With Emily I feel safe to open it and we're getting close to that point so I can finally get some relief and "do the full job" of therapy.
