I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 22 years of experience counseling primarily adults in the state of Indiana. I believe in the practice of "unconditional positive regard," meaning I will never be judgmental or shaming during my time with you. Instead, I will be sincere, engaging, supportive and encouraging you in your journey towards a better you.
My experience in counseling includes those with Depression, Grief, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, ADHD, Relationship issues, Abuse (sexual and domestic), Shame-based Family of Origin issues, Co-Dependency, and Addictions.
In therapy I use a blend of Adlerian and Cognitive Behavioral therapies, which focuses on how our thinking, feeling, and behavior can drive dysfunctional living, and
conversely, how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can be changed to produce a healthier, productive lifestyle. To that end, in addition to talk therapy, I use didactic, experiential, and the use of parables to help facilitate your progress. The use of "homework" I find keeps clients engaged in the therapy process while not in session.
If you choose to work with me, together we will make a plan of treatment based on your goals for seeking treatment, and I will walk with you every step of the way.
I am fully aware you have tried everything else before walking through the virtual door and I respect you for your courage in seeking help at this time.
Additional areas of focus:Stress, Anxiety, Family conflicts, Intimacy-related issues, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, ADHD, Aging and geriatric issues, Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Co-morbidity, Codependency, Dependent personality, Drug and alcohol addiction, Family of origin issues, Guilt and shame, Infidelity, Isolation / loneliness, Veteran and Armed Forces Issues, Mood disorders, Obsessions, compulsions, and OCD, Panic disorder and panic attacks, Paranoia, Personality disorders, Phobias, Post-traumatic stress, Process addiction (porn, exercise, gambling), Sexual assault and abuse, Social anxiety and phobia, Traumatic brain injury, Young adult issues

Emily is an excellent therapist. Her demeanor is friendly, respectful and nonjudgmental. She will use thought provoking worksheets as “homework “ when appropriate to help her clients work through issues. Emily will sometimes use examples from her own life experiences to illustrate a point. She has a conversational style that can quickly put her clients at ease. Emily has been an immense help to me and I highly recommend her.

I haven’t even made it through more than 3 sessions and I can tell how involved she wants to be. She listens well, gives guidance where needed and gives great assignments to work on between sessions. She does great at looking at all aspects of your life even if you think “why is she wanting to talk about this?” She always connects dots in ways you wouldn’t have thought. Definitely recommend and will be sticking with her for as long as needed!!

Emily is very friendly and put me at ease immediately. I've had a host of bad counselors before, the most recent of which I had just fired the day I was matched with Emily. She listens and understands and doesn't try to tell me how I feel or make me feel worse for struggling with my emotions. I'm comfortable enough with her that I'm willing to open my proverbial Pandora's box with her, whereas with other counselors I would quit at this point because that box needed to stay locked and chained and in a faraway corner. With Emily I feel safe to open it and we're getting close to that point so I can finally get some relief and "do the full job" of therapy.

Emily is the best. Hands down. She genuinely cares for her patients and has always made me feel at home in our sessions. She’s helped me learn so much about myself and worked with me on things no other therapist has. She does the deep digging that’s helped me grow and gave me the guidance I needed to make it through hard situations.

Easy to talk to from the start. Even in the first session she asked just the right questions to make me have one of those "aha" moments. That's a sign of a good therapist in my opinion..... really getting someone to 'see' their own stuff.

Speaking with Emily feels more like speaking with an aunt or someone you look up to than it feels like being in "Therapy". She does not miss a thing and even when I first met her and told her about a confusing work experience involving many people, she kept track of the name of each person and what happened. She listens very actively and anything she says is very specific to what I was speaking about. She helped me go from trembling anxiety/Depression/Xanax to being happily employed with a job where I have set boundaries for myself & my employer and I make time for myself & enjoy my life and family again. I am very grateful to her.

First and foremost Emily listens. No judgement, no pretense to a solution, Emily listens.
I realize there is a process to therapy and Emily allows for me to take that journey while providing support and empathy. I enjoy our discussions and the homework she has me do along the way. It's not easy at times, but it's all focused on helping me process towards my goals.
Since starting with Emily I've been sleeping better just being able to have someone I can send a note to and get anything off my chest. She's responsive and I would recommend her.
