My life has been dedicated to serving in the child welfare system of the St. Louis, MO metropolitan area since 1994. Previous settings include residential treatment, outpatient mental health services, and foster care & adoption agencies. This has afforded extensive experience working with children and adolescents whose circumstances have caused deep harm to their mental and emotional well-being. My mission...to decrease the impact those circumstances would have on them in adulthood, to increase their chances of a healthy adulthood. It’s a mission I’ve executed with heart.
Later in my career, I began working with adults who were seeking support and improvement in significant areas of their lives (e.g., relationships, parenting, etc.), and in some cases, in their overall satisfaction with their existence in the world. Most oftentimes, the root of their challenges stemmed from harmful circumstances or experiences that occurred in childhood. It affirmed the importance of this mission to support youth in their healing as well as highlighted the need to support adults in the same manner. It also shifted my professional approach to more holistic forms of treatment that consider the totality of the individual.
I use concepts from various traditional counseling theories as the foundation of my work, so I subscribe to an eclectic theoretical approach to treatment and support. I consider the personal history, personality, values, and therapeutic needs of my client. This individualized approach is necessary to establishing a trusting connection and for creating a safe environment for such important work.
I commend you taking this step and look forward to joining you on your healing journey!

Erica has been a terrific listener and therapist so far. She has been attentive to my concerns, provides resources that are helpful, and absorbs a lot of information while still focusing on the issue at hand. She has made me feel comfortable talking about issues that require action and not just words. I’m very appreciative of her support so far!

Better help chose a perfect therapist for me. She understands what I'm going through and never hesitates to send me helpful scriptures that always make me feel better. After 45 years of an emotionally and mentally abusive marriage and finally leaving to face a nasty divorce, finding this therapy group was the best thing that could have happened for me. I would highly recommend Better Help and my therapist.

I am very thankful that I was matched with Erica, we had a connection from the start and our relationship blossomed into something special over the six weeks that I worked with her. Erica uses her personal experience as well as her knowledge and expertise gained in the field to assess and diagnose individually. Erica let me guide the conversation most of the time and even though I did not always have a plan of what I wanted to say, it ended up coming out and we were able to uncover things I had kept hidden from myself for a long time. Erica taught me how to be emotionally intelligent, consciously thoughtful and to be appreciative of the journey. I especially love Erica's way of visualizing and using analogies to describe feelings and emotional actions. She has a way with words that helps me to see the picture clearer. I strongly recommend Erica to anybody who is working through a tough time or really anybody who needs a smiling, helpful person to talk to. Thank you Erica!!!

I can't recommend Erica R. Brooks more highly after six sessions discussing how to be a supportive partner and identifying the connection between my childhood and the self-doubt I'm working on to this day. She has so much empathy and it's just fun to speak with her because she can speak from experience and expertise, with an excellent sense of humor as well. If you are lucky like me you will be assigned to her but I would highly encourage to do what I'll be doing in the future and requesting her anytime I use BetterHelp.

Erica has been an incredible guide and support in my life. Joining Betterhelp, I was initially nervous about the pairing process - I am so glad that I was matched with Erica.
She actively listens, encourages room for me to call in and understand my own states with each moment, and provides amazing tools for me to carry forward for myself. Her insight and expertise is remarkable - I have received an abundance of resources addressing topics discussed during our sessions, all which provide greater understanding of myself. She is mindful of her patients’ needs and wants, and her practices are reflective of her consideration and care for them.
I can truthfully say Erica Brooks has created the safest, bravest space I have ever been a part of. I am BEYOND grateful to call her my therapist. Thank you Erica!!

I appreciate Erica’s enduring committing to helping those experiencing duress heal from their trauma, and she is someone who I feel both safe confiding in and recidivist advice from. These things, in tandem with her litany of expertise, make her an exceptional therapist. I’m grateful to be one of her clients.
