About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia and have been in a private practice for over 25 years. I work with individuals who suffer from depression, anxiety, ADHD, and traumatic experiences (physical, emotional, and sexual). Family conflicts and relationship issues are also a focus of my practice.

My approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy. I often coordinate mindfulness, insight-oriented approaches, and storytelling in my sessions, depending on an individual’s uniqueness.

My primary goal is to develop a therapeutic relationship built on trust. I believe that the client’s motivation is key to success and that all motivation must start with a destination, chosen by the client. I see myself just as a facilitator, guiding the client towards that destination.

I look forward to working with you!

Eather is lovely and I benefit immensely from our weekly chats. She helps me see things through a different lens and really helps me figure out what questions I need to ask myself in order to move forward in my healing. She is simply wonderful!

Esther has been really patient and kind as I’m recovering from major spine surgery. I think she is a great match for me as I’m also dealing with past trauma, depression and anxiety. I know she can help me address the issues I’m dealing with.

Esther is the best therapist I've ever had. Her way of looking at things and strategies appeals to me. I'm a person who wants homework, to DO something about what I'm feeling. Esther is always ready and understanding. I love my conversations with her.

I really enjoy working with Esther. She is open to many different ways of how life should be lived which is invaluable to me since most of my family members are atypical and fall into a variety of spectrums ie narcissist to autistic; fundamental Christian to paganism; extreme left, right, upside down political views etc.

Then, of course, there is me with all of the facets of my frayed and debilitated personality. Somehow, Esther is able to wade through it all, connect with the real me and provide the support that I need. Esther’s perception of my reality allows her to guide me along a path that helps me grow. As I am able, she encourages me to do more, or slow me down if I am getting ahead of myself. Esther always encourages me and focuses on my growth.

I also like Esther’s honesty. Esther shares her knowledge with me but also lets me know if she is not familiar with a subject in which I am inquiring. In those situations, she suggestions ways for me to pursue the information I need and she will research it too.

I have a hard time trusting and connecting with people so I am very pleased with my relationship with Esther.
