Dr. Gail Bruce-Sanford, Psychologist
About me
My name is Dr. Gail Bruce-Sanford ad I hold a Ph. D. in Counseling Psychology .
I have provided psychotherapy services to young adults, college students and older adults. I have also done much work with couples. I have worked at university counseling centers, community mental health, and individual private practice. I have worked in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Montana, and Colorado.
My clientele have come from various diverse backgrounds, socioeconomic status, and geographic locations. I have worked with bi-racial, multiracial, and persons from various international countries who currently reside in the United States.
I have been doing psychotherapy for over thirty years. I use a blended approach of family systems, psychodynamic , client-centered, and cognitive-behavioral perspectives. I assist clients in finding their strengths and help them to get unstuck. I help them to realize their full potential. I provide much support and validation, as well as encourage deep self-exploration.
A primary goal that I have in working with clients is to reduce their suffering and introduce them to healthier paths that can bring fulfillment, inner peace, and the ability to maintain control. People often get stuck in patterns that are self-defeating and find them difficult to change because they have become so habituated to their familiar routines. Introducing new and different strategies could be very relieving and opens doors to new hope, excitement, and satisfaction with life.
I allow you to pace yourself so that it does not feel like you are being rushed. Your problems may not all have occurred overnight and will not go away overnight.
Hence providing you with enough time to think deeply and work through your issues are very critical in my approach. I provide a nurturing, non-judgmental, and supportive atmosphere in which to work.
