About me

I have been a licensed professional counselor in Texas since 2018. Prior to becoming a counselor, I retired as a school principal where I worked with countless adolescents and their families. Further, I was a business owner and served in the military. I work with clients of all races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic status. My clients range from adolescents to retired adults experiencing a wide range of concerns such as overwhelming stress, anxiety, relationship issues, PTSD, parenting problems, addictions, and career challenges. Many of my clients have experienced emotional trauma from sexual assault, both physical and emotional abuse, as well as neglect.

My counseling style is conversational and casual. I believe in treating everyone with respect, empathy, and compassion. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral therapy, choice theory, and rational-emotive therapy. We will work together to create and follow a treatment plan that meets your unique and specific needs, which will enable you to confidently make choices that will empower you.

If you are ready to live the life that you want then I look forward to working with you.

I had the pleasure of working with Garland I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. From our first session, I felt comfortable and at ease with Garland. He was patient, level-headed, cool, calm and collected, and he always let me know exactly what I needed to hear.
Throughout our sessions, Garland helped me navigate some major family problems and helped me realize things that I had never considered before. He helped me break lifelong cycles of abuse and gave me the tools I needed to make positive changes in my life.
Garland is a fantastic listener and he always provided valuable insight and guidance. He never judged or dismissed my feelings, but instead helped me understand them better.
I highly recommend Garland to anyone who is looking for a therapist who is dedicated, compassionate, and truly wants to help his clients. He has made a significant impact on my life and I will always be grateful for his support.
