Group sessions Disclaimers
In addition to the Client Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy that you signed when subscribing to your BetterHelp membership, as a Group session participant you accept the risks discussed below and agree to the following terms that are specific to participation in this program:
- The service provided through Group sessions is not intended for crisis situations and urgent needs. In a crisis situation, you agree to call 911 or local emergency services, or visit the nearest emergency room.
- Group sessions may have drawbacks, and effective groups generally depend on the facilitator to help steer away from
these problems. These may include the following risks:
- Disruptive or otherwise disrespectful participants;
- Conversation dominated by a single participant or by griping, or that is upsetting to other participants;
- Failure to keep the agreement to maintain confidentiality;
- Emotional entanglement, group tension, or interpersonal conflicts; and
- Inappropriate or unsound medical advice from other participants or the facilitator, despite BetterHelp's efforts to ensure that this is solely a facilitated group discussion.
While BetterHelp encourages Group session participants to reach out to our Member Success team if there are violations of the Guidelines, you accept these risks as a voluntary, knowing participant in the Group sessions.
- As explained in the Guidelines, there is no client/therapist relationship formed by participating in any Group sessions. Group sessions are not intended to serve as medical or health care advice, intended for diagnosis or treatment, or intended as a substitute for therapy.
- BetterHelp reserves the right to suspend you from participating in future Group sessions, and potentially from using BetterHelp's other services, if we deem at our sole discretion that your conduct violates Group session guidelines or BetterHelp's other policies.
- While BetterHelp prioritizes the privacy and data security practices laid out in the Client Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy linked above, BetterHelp cannot make the same guarantees about information that is disclosed during Group sessions in light of the format of these sessions. As indicated above, BetterHelp emphasizes to all participants the importance of confidentiality, and will take the appropriate steps to enforce this guideline and in cases where there is a breach.
