Harvey Norris, LCSW
About me
Hi, my name is Harvey Norris. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Louisiana with over 30 years of experience in the mental health field. I have worked with a wide range of client concerns including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, and suicide. I specialize in dealing with Trauma, Veterans, and Active Duty service members.
My counseling approach is person centered and I am warm and compassionate. I treat everybody with dignity and respect. I believe when I meet a new client my role is to “start where they are” and help them move forward along the path They want. I try very hard to avoid labels that stigmatize all humans.
Change and tackling your issues takes courage and strength. Shaping your life to become more fulfilled and happy is very difficult. I appreciate you taking this opportunity to reach out to me and see if we can work together to help you be all that you can be.
On a personal level, I have been married to the same wonderful woman since 1994 and we have a relationship that reaches back to 1989. We have five beautiful but stubborn children, trying to navigate forward in these chaotic times. I live in a nice house "owned" by my terrier (dog) named "Scruffy" or "Mr. Scruffles" who generously allows my family to live here with him.

Reviews

He LISTENS to what I have to say, and he responds to me like I matter. He does not try to throw terms at me and hope something sticks, he actually listens to me, and he has adjusted therapy techniques so that they make sense for me. I've never had a therapist for more than 3/4 sessions because I usually lose trust in them for their lack of attention and their lack of desire to help me. However, I really enjoy Harvey, and I would like him to be my therapist for as long as I can have him.

Harvey is my favourite therapist and has been a real rock for me during some difficult times in my life over the last year.
He gives great supportive and impartial, nonjudgmental advice and is always positive and punctual.
I would recommend him 100%.
A genuinely really great person + Therapist to speak to.

Harvey is a great therapist though, I'll preface that he is a great therapist for me. Harvey's insight and knowledge with psychology has been incredibly helpful when diving into different subject matters. He provides perspective and assistance when looking into situations differently, which for me has been a huge help, both in my short term issues as well as long term. He is not afraid to be direct, provide hypotheses into behavior and propose solutions. This is something I personally appreciate and look for in a therapist. If this type of therapy sounds good to you, Harvey is your therapist.

Harvey was friendly, honest, easy to talk to, and found a way to make me comfortable in our sessions. He seemed to find a way to find common ground to build that bridge for communication. I highly recommend this man.

Harvey is very approachable and accessible. He is laid back but incredibly knowledgeable. He walks you through how the brain develops and what methods you will be using together to address your mental health issues. I had a very pleasant and productive first session.
