Jay (Jahanara) Rowell, BACP
About me
Hi I am Jay, I am licensed and registered female psychotherapist, who has worked predominantly in the UK for the last 26 years. I have vast therapeutic and clinical experience in helping clients with a wide range issues such as stress, anxiety & depression, abandonment, death, grief, loss, MS, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, autism, ADHD, sensory impairments, drug and alcohol dependencies, foster care, adoption, low self esteem and confidence, body dysmorphia, childhood sexual abuse, childhood trauma, PTSD, disordered eating, mid-life crisis, living under military occupation, prison detention, forensic history, impact of war and displacement etc. I have specialized in the area of child, adolescent and family mental health for over 20 years both in an out-patient and inpatient mental health setting.
I also manage my own private practice and work therapeutically with adults and couples. I am trained and certified to deliver EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy) which is a trauma-informed therapeutic intervention. I am also a certified and experienced Systemic therapist.
I also have an international portfolio of working across the Middle East and USA. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment, criticism and failure. I have extensive experience of working with clients from diverse backgrounds, and as a therapist of colour, I value and am passionate about working with difference, similarities, challenges, barriers and struggles that people of colour experience on a daily basis, whether that be at home, school, college, workplace or in relationships.
I have over 5 years experience of working remotely using emails, phone calls and video calls. I know this may seem a little strange at first, especially if you have never worked therapeutically in this way; however over time, I hope I can reassure you by saying that it does start to feel easier and you will feel more relaxed with each session.
I have published books in the field of child and adolescent mental health and was also the recipient of the National Mental Health Award, (UK).
Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage, it is not an easy step to take. I hope every person feels safe and contained in the space we share together. I look forward to getting to know you and helping you to continue your journey of reflection, positive change, insight and transformation.

She understands my situation and helps me focus on what I can control and can rise quickly to my pace of need and slow down when she sees I can look at other perspectives. I would be lost and in really bad shape if I didn’t have her to talk to.

Jay-what a woman! She has been the most incredible therapist to work with. I went into the process feeling anxious and sceptical having had some not so helpful experiences with therapists in the past.
But within the first session with Jay I felt super hopeful and positive that I was with the right person to support me to get to a better place.
Her knowledge and expertise has literally changed my life!
I've felt valued, validation and had the most constructive feedback and support throughout the process. Messaging in-between sessions was great, she responded really quickly with thought and great support.
I've felt really heard, been put at ease and given the tools to fix things I thought were unfixable.
I would highly recommend her to anyone. I feel like a new woman. The best investment I've ever made. Five stars
