About me

Philosophy of Care

Jay Weidner is a psychotherapist in Georgia & Florida with over 16+ years of experience working in combined outpatient, inpatient, clinical review, crisis services, and recovery-oriented settings. He is published in addiction, evidence-based treatment, client-centered therapy, and survivor guilt. He maintains private practice, academic appointments, and works in the addiction recovery community. He completed his clinical training at Nova Southeastern University. He went on to complete three years of graduate training in conflict analysis and resolution, and a doctoral degree in addiction psychology to support the integration of scientific knowledge into clinical practice. He uses these skills to add value to our understanding of conflicts in our lives, which help us to overcome patterns of anger, escalation, and learn to develop peaceful ways of resolving conflict that support healing from the conflict.

He has completed training in motivational interviewing/motivational enhancement, cognitive behavioral therapy, guided self-change, solution-focused exposure therapy, meditation, performance coaching, and client-centered techniques. By integrating these approaches into a tailored and individualized approach, we can provide a framework that supports skill integration so that clients have the tools to realize their goals in treatment.

Doing work in therapy is a journey that often asks us to examine how we understand ourselves. During this period of self-exploration, it can ask us to challenge how we see things and to discuss things from new perspectives. I am here to help you explore which approaches and techniques can help you to be conscious in this exploration, develop skills to handle the challenges and examine the things that are important to you. It is through this exploration that we can empower ourselves to make healthier choices for dealing with stress, loss, or grief, and provide a safe space to examine the unique challenges that we face, be those in the form of addiction, relationship, stress, injury, or loss. It is through exploration of these experiences and examining the tools that we select to include in our recovery that we can build a plan to help us move forward in our lives to support our goals for the future.

“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift, that is why we call it the present”.

Don’t let your yesterday define your tomorrow; and keep you in the today, reflecting on your past, being feeling defined by the aspects that you feel hold you back. We can find a better way—a way to use the tools of therapy to grow past these challenges and live consciously toward our intended future.

I found Dr. Weidner very relatable and I was very impressed with his recall regarding my issues. As an older adult I think Dr. Weidner has the ability to adapt to different generations.

Thank you for listening to my concerns and needs. You have really helped me in the past 4 weeks with seeing my path and building confidence in me.

I was matched perfectly with JD at a time when I really needed someone to help me process a break up and other things I was struggling with in my communication style. He’s greatly helped me with achieving new communication goals, boundaries being set with others and also becoming more comfortable with letting go of past relationships while accepting my journey and where I am in my life. He’s been extremely good with checking in during weeks when I’ve been busy and is schedule has been very easy to work along with mine.

JD has been great. Listens, asks questions to make me think about my actions.

I feel a difference already and it’s been two weeks. I have been feeling a better grip of my emotions and anxiety.

If I have any questions, he’ll respond fairly quickly.

He’s a kind, understanding person who has made me feel at ease (which is very difficult!) I would recommend him highly to my peers.
