Jennifer Evans Powis, LPC
About me
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri. I graduated from the University of Missouri- Kansas City in 2009 with a Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance with an emphasis in Couples and Family Therapy. While earning my education, I focused on women's issues and relationship dynamics. My work experience includes: domestic violence counselor, crisis therapy, ethics leader, counselor with Child Protective Services focusing on parenting and relationship concerns with mothers, and in private practice with a focus on women's issues and trauma.
I am trained in Trauma-focused therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I use a Client-Centered approach in therapy and implement Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Trauma-Focused Therapy into my practice as well. My therapy style is warm and supportive. My thought process is not "what is wrong with you?" but instead I explore "what happened to you?" I believe that "what happened to you?" is the overarching question in which to begin therapy. Anyone could be in your situation. It's a matter of what would it take in someone's life that would put them in your situation. This mind set allows for a judgment free and supportive approach to empowering you to reach your goals.
