I've met with many clients who have shared they don't feel really heard or understood by others. As a result-they feel lonely, isolated, and hopeless. I believe that to feel a sense of personal wellness we must also feel heard & connected!
Finding and connecting with a counselor is a valuable and courageous choice to move forward! It is important for me to create a space where my clients feel trusting and comfortable. This space is a 'judgement-free zone'. I want to create an atmosphere in relationship to my clients in which they can share those things which might feel 'unspeakable'. It has been my experience that those are the things that need saying.
I have a well-seasoned 17+ years of experience working as a therapeutic counselor. I am thankful to be able to do this work! I consider myself to be a resourceful, creative, & patient therapist with a robust combination of life experience, clinical expertise, and therapeutic skill.
My trauma-informed approach may be considered integrative, as I will often utilize techniques from: CBT, DBT, IFS, Positive Communication Skill Building, Anger Management, and Art Therapy. I must also add here that I try to incorporate humor, when appropriate. Let's call this 'chuckle healing'.

Joan is a very understanding and approachable counselor. She does a great job of getting to know you and what works best for the patients experience. She challenges you in ways that are not overwhelming but are very successful. She also peppers in some comedic relief which can keep things fresh. I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to speak with and learn from Joan over the last 5 months. I felt very seen and understood. I can’t thank her enough for that incredible gift. I've referred to her as my angel because she helped me tackle issues that I thought would trap me in an unhappy life. She helped me realize that there are so many perspectives and techniques that I can use to chip away at the big problematic icebergs blocking me from peace and joy. Joan helped me immensely following the breakup with my fiancé. I really like Joan a lot. She’s kind, compassionate, and funny. There were times where I’d start a session feeling extremely depressed, and somehow this woman always made me feel special and beautiful upon session termination. She also did a wonderful job identifying and addressing other stressers /concerns in my life. The homework she assigns is awesome! I still journal to this day.

It can be tough to find the right counselor and I was really lucky to get Joan. We clicked immediately. She is very empathetic and intuitive and patient and uses a wide variety of tools and materials and articles to help give you perspective. I came to her with a long-standing problem I've had in my life, dealing with intrusive bitter memories stemming from childhood emotional trauma that have been hurting the quality of my life for a long time. She quickly recommended techniques that really helped me get to the core wound and start to heal it. I was really stuck and she helped me make real progress with creative solutions. She is also just a wonderful, kindhearted person and a dream to work with. I can't recommend her highly enough.

Joan French is amazing! She is really nice and kind. I love how she uses different techniques to help you, for instance art therapy. Art therapy has been helping me heal from the traumatic event that I have been through, and also helping me express how and what I am feeling! She also makes you feel comfortable to talk to her. And she also give you good feedback and will explain something to you if you don’t understand. And one last thing, if you do the homework assignment as she calls them; you will get more out of therapy. Your not just talking to her, but also do activities that will help you heal, and or move past what your going though.
