I graduated from Alabama State University in 2011 with my MS in Clinical Mental health counseling. I have done a vast amount of work in all treatment modalities as well as various populations. Primarily I have worked with families, in the community, crisis and trauma centered work, as well as substance use and severe mental health illness. My drive in this field is to help individuals who are struggling to mentally get to a place of peace and be that ear that can help one process and sort out whatever struggles they may be facing where accessing family and friends is not an option. My most sought out modes of counseling that I find most effective are solution focused, Cognitive behavior, Motivational interviewing , and person centered. These modalities are typically centered around allowing my client to be heard, as well as creating a space of open dialogue for me to learn more about you, and find root causes of presenting problem and begin to explore ways to help either shift the dynamic or shift the though process of the situation to assist in making life fuller, manageable and peaceful.
Additional areas of focus:LGBT, Trauma and abuse, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Eating disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, ADHD, Abandonment, Antisocial personality, Communication problems, Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD), Drug and alcohol addiction, Family problems, Impulsivity, Mood disorders, Panic disorder and panic attacks, Personality disorders, Self-love, Social anxiety and phobia, Workplace issues, Young adult issues

I love Johne! I had never been in therapy before and she really was a breath of fresh air to jump start me into this relationship with normalizing Therapy. She is absolutely amazing and I highly recommend her. She is able to have empathy and understanding about interracial and cultural issues. She allows you to talk and she ask questions that allow you to go deeper. My experience with Johne was so amazing that I encouraged my mom to get into therapy under the same platform here. It is so critical for Black people to have black therapist, I am forever grateful for my experience with Johne. She is a blessing and I pray God's Blessing over her life.

I recently switched to Johne Mitchell after my previous counselor had to stop seeing me because she had some personal issue come up and had to take a lot of time off. So far, I really like Johne. She doesn't complain that I'm so long-winded, she answers every part of the many paragraphs I always type to her, she answers so quickly, and she is a really positive person so she gives me advice and criticism but she's so hopeful and perky that it doesn't bring me down. I feel like I can be really honest with her. We haven't had a video or phone session yet but I am looking forward to making time for one soon.

Johne really listens to me and holds space for me. I appreciate that she brings her entire life experience to the work. I appreciate the cultural connection we share. Plainly speaking I appreciate that she is a highly skilled black woman that understands a part of my experience and so can relate and give appropriate feedback. I wish BetterHelp had more like her. Thank you for having Johne as a counselor on your roster.

Johne has been a terrific help during this time, she is very considerate and thoughtful as well as thought provoking and responds in a timely manner with personal insightful thoughts and information. I'm so lucky to have matched with her the first try on this platform as I've known others who have had to try multiple counselors before finding the perfect one for them, thank you Johne for being the perfect one on my first try!

Johne Mitchell is a wonderful counselor! She listens to your needs and lays out a plan on how to achieve the goals your trying to reach in therapy. She knows her stuff! Also, she responds very quickly anytime you reach out to her. And, I've never had a counselor that reaches out to their patient when she hasn't heard from you in a couple of days! She truly cares. Best therapist I have ever had! 5 stars!
